Not a few customers preferring a more carefree driving spirit usually have some trouble accessing upscale luxurious models simply because they aren’t cheap to begin with. Now, Mercedes-Benz has made it easier for these customers in the United Kingdom to avail of its open-top offerings with the new Mercedes-Benz SLC 180.

As disclosed by the German premium carmaker, the new Mercedes-Benz SLC 180 hard-top cabrio is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine that is able to deliver up to 156 hp (116 kW) of output and up to 250 Nm (184 lb.-ft.) of peak torque. This engine is powerful enough to allow Mercedes’ smallest convertible to sprint from standstill to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 7.9 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h). This amount of power output and torque is sent to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, the new Mercedes SLC 180 could be fitted with the 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, which is optionally available for an extra £1,600.

This turbocharged 1.6-liter mill is efficient enough to be able to achieve 48.7 miles per gallon of petrol (combined) while emitting 134 grams of carbon dioxide per km.

Meanwhile, the SLC 180 AMG Line is provided – as standard -- with juicy and sporty features like 18-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension and sports braking system. The SLC 180 AMG Line also features Artico seats, Active Brake Assist, air conditioning and cruise control as standard. Mercedes has already discontinued the SLC Sport line, which means that the SLC AMG Line is now the only optional trim, which is available for £500 less than its usual price.

The new Mercedes SLC 180 could now be ordered in the UK, although customers have to wait late summer in the earliest to take delivery of their roadsters. It comes with a starting price of £32,039 OTR. Mercedes is also offering a 36-month plan for the new SLC 180 with monthly installments of £276 and a one-time customer deposit of £3,999.

For those who want the best, they could avail of the range-topping SLC that is powered by a bi-turbo V6 engine that delivers 362 hp (270 kW) of max output and 520 Nm (384 lb.-ft.) of peak torque. This allows this SLC model to accelerate from nil to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.7 seconds and go as fast as 155 mph (250 km/h). This model – the Mercedes SLC 43 – has a starting price of £47,600.

There have been reports indicating that the SLC may not be getting a new generation model. However, since the Mercedes SLC was released in late 2015, it is possible that it will be a few years before it will be discontinued.

Press Release

The SLC 180 AMG Line has been added to the SLC range, with prices starting from £32,039 OTR.

With monthly payments starting from as low as £276, the new SLC 180 makes the Mercedes-Benz roadster range more accessible than ever before.

The SLC 180 features a turbo-charged 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 156 hp and 250 Nm. It can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 140 mph. It emits a low 134 g/km of CO2 and delivers up to 48.7 mpg combined. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, or for £1,600 customers can opt for a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.

The SLC 180 AMG Line comes as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels; Artico seats; Active Brake Assist; cruise control; air conditioning; sports suspension; and sports braking system.

The SLC Sport model line has also been discontinued to make the range even simpler, with AMG Line now the only option. The price of AMG Line trim has also been reduced by £500, making the SLC line-up even more attractive.
