While car media outlets are busy keeping tabs on what’s happening at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, apparently, something hotter has been brewing in Crewe England after Bentley uncovered its new 2018 Continental GT First Special Edition. At a time when the first batch of the 3rd generation Continental GT has not yet reached the homes of their rightful owners, we have to say this is something we least expected.
Regardless, Bentley’s Continental GT has been customized by the British marque’s design team to create the ultimate grand tourer of all time — the First Edition. It features a rotating display that lets you switch between three various panels. Depending on what suits your mood, its built-in 12.3-inch touch screen can be swapped with another instrument display that offers three analog dials or if the engine is turned off, the next option showcases a panel display that offers unobstructed view of the dashboard.
Bentley’s First Edition is also offered with four distinctively premium dual tone veneers for its Grand Black dashboard that suits any of the four veneer colors available --- Dark Fiddleback Eucaplyptus, Dark Stained Madrona, Liquid Amber, and the Tamo Ash veneer finish.
The seats now feature an elegant quilt pattern in diamond shapes which are likewise applied on the rear quarter panels as well as those at the doors. In addition, the 2018 Continental GT First Edition has been adorned with Union Flag badges visible on both the interior and exterior sections while the illuminated door sills helps draw more attention to the Bentley badge whenever the door opens.
On the safety front, other add-ons may vary depending on the vehicle’s specification but the driver assistance system should at least now comprise of traffic sign recognition, pedestrian warning and parking assist. The First Edition can be specified whether in Touring or City specification.
Some optionally available upgrades include a set of 22 - inch wheels in gloss finish, foot pedals with drilled alloy design and jewel encrusted finish for both oil and filler caps. Meanwhile, clients can have the option to replace the 650W built in audio system either with Naim’s 2,200W or with Bang and Olufsen’s 1500W powerful sound systems.
The First Edition still uses the same 6.0 liter twin turbo W12 TSI gas engine as the standard Continental GT. Therefore, it’s packed with the same impressive outputs of 626 hp (635 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque and it takes off from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds before topping off at 207mph (333 km/h).
