There is no doubt that the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 can perform. And not only can it perform, it can definitely impress a lot of car enthusiasts. But if you think the ZL1 can do a better job, you are indeed right about that. Chevrolet just announced the 1LE option package for the said model, to ensure that the muscle machine efficiently uses every bit of its 650 horsepower down to the road.
You can get the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE along with the track-focused equipment for a total of $69,995, which already includes the $995 destination fee, as soon as this summer. The 1LE option package has a price of $7,500.
The Camaro ZL1 that comes with the optional 1LE package is currently the range topper in the lineup. If you choose to get the said package, your Camaro will be given performance parts such as Multimatic’s Dynamic Suspension Spool Valve dampers - this will allow the driver adjust the ride height at the front. There is also a three-way adjustable rear stabilizer bar.
Included in the 1LE package are wheels that are slightly wider, but are also an inch smaller in diameter than the standard wheels the ZL1 comes with. These wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R tires for a better lateral grip, at the same time cuts 3.3 pounds (1.5 kilograms) off of each corner.
Speaking of weight, to reduce some more of the ZL1’s weight, the 1LE package will replace the standard rear window glass to a thinner one, while the rear seats now have a fixed back. All in all, the updates you get from the track focused package will shed about 60 pounds (27 kilograms) off your Camaro. Therefore, you get a lighter, and a faster car.
As for the engine, the Camaro ZL1 really does not need any upgrade. This means that the 6.2 liter supercharged V8 with 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) and 650 pound-feet (880 Newton metres) of torque will remain under its hood. With the same engine, the coupe is capable of sprinting to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in just 3.5 seconds, and can reach 200 mph (321 kph). The engine is paired with a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic gearbox that brings power to the rear wheels.
Apart from the performance upgrade, Chevy ensures that you get a meaner looking car too. The ZL1 will be given canards and air deflectors, which are supposed to help with cornering grip - so it isn’t just about the looks. A carbon fiber rear wing will also be installed on the trunk for a sportier look.
The 2018 Camaro is expected to go on sale this summer, so we should get the complete specifications before then.
