2018 Chevrolet Equinox: Initial pricing released for US and Canada

Article by Christian A., on December 9, 2016

Chevrolet has already given out the pricing for some of its 2018 Equinox models. Not only will the new Equinox be available in both the US and Canada, it is also expected to roll out in 115 other countries worldwide at the end of next year. What we have right now are the initial prices for its Canada and US consumers.

The 1.5 litre turbo is priced for as low as $26, 995 CAD or $24,475 USD. Prices for all variants are not given out entirely, but the entry-level will be fitted with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing as much as 170hp and 201 lb-ft of torque with estimated fuel returns of 31mph.

Other engines will be offered in a much powerful 252hp 2.0 litre turbo engine that delivers up to 260lb-ft of torque. This probably will come with GM’s latest 9-speed automatic transmission.

For lesser fuel consumption, there is also a 136hp 1.6 litre turbo diesel with up to 236lb-ft torque output. It is said that Chevrolet will pair this Equinox model with a 6-speed automatic gearbox just like the other variants.

There has been no confirmation yet if all models will be offered with AWD and FWD. But according to Chevrolet, they will be offering these versions on the latest model. From what we know, it has shed off a significant amount of weight by at least 181kgs. If it were true, then the new Chevy Equinox will be its lightest version yet it weighs more or less 3,327lbs.

If there’s more, we’ll be expecting the new Equinox to have a host of safety features and driver assistance technologies. Some of these include a Wi-Fi hotspot in 4G LTE, OnStar, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MyLink infotainment system.

Steve Majoros, Chevrolet cars and crossovers marketing director, explained what the customers want from today’s crossovers. Without a doubt, the new Equinox delivers safety, efficient performance as well as comfort and connectivity.

The new safety technologies include rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist with departure warning, low-speed forward automatic braking, forward collision alert with distance indicator and the new side blind zone alert. So as you can see, aside from offering comfort, Equinox has a new approach in design and technologies to make its passengers more connected on the road.

The Equinox has four trims available such as the Premier, LT, LS and L variants. By all means, the new Equinox will be pitted against the new Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. While Honda CRV’s price starts at $23,845USD, the Toyota RAV4 is priced at $24,910USD up to $34,750 USD. With these prices already released, we hope to see more official pricing details for the Equinox to come out real soon.
