The wait is finally over for Dodge enthusiasts; the company will be taking orders for the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon this Wednesday, 21 June. The model will have an asking price of $86,090, including gas tax and destination. For those who take orders this week, expect to get your car this fall.
Dodge said in the press announcement that the company has developed a unique ordering process for the Demon, hoping to prevent speculators from selling the model for much higher prices. Examples of the muscle car that will be sold at or below the MSRP, will receive a lower serial number and also get priority scheduling. Meanwhile, those Demons that will be sold higher than the MSRP will have to wait until after the priority production has been completed.
As you all know, the Dodge SRT Challenger Demon is limited to only 3,000 units in the United States, plus an additional 300 units for the Canadian market. Each one of the Demons will have a serial number that indicates its place in the production order. So far, the company has only planned to build a single model year for it.
However, being a limited-edition vehicle, the company's ordering process may not actually work as they planned, knowing that one can earn a fortune by reselling the highly sought after Demon for a much higher price. And I am quite sure that a hardcore enthusiast out there will be more than willing to pay over $86,000.
In fact, not all Dodge dealers qualify to sell the Challenger Demon as there are requirements that the showrooms have to fit in like selling at least one SRT Hellcat over the last 12 months. Furthermore, qualified dealers will only get a certain number of units depending on their sales performance of models including the Challenger, Charger, and SRT Hellcat. So if you are eyeing one of these, be sure to go to the right dealership before stocks run out.
For those who will be able to make an order on Wednesday, they will also be given access to the Demon Concierge, that is an online hotline where customers can get directly in touch with the automaker to track their orders.
Just a refresher, lucky buyers of the Challenger Demon will be able to drive the 808 horsepower (602 kilowatts) machine, with a torque of 717 pound-feet (972 Newton metres). That power comes from its 6.2 liter supercharged V8 on 91-octane gasoline. With the race fuel in the tank, the muscle car can push its power to a maximum of 840 horsepower (626 kilowatts) and 770 pound feet (1,044 Nm) of torque. What more can you ask for?
