The first Step WGN was introduced in Japan in the mid-1990s, and the current model is getting a complete makeover in 2015. For this year’s refresh, the massive van’s front fascia will be tweaked, as it gets a new grille with new LED head lights. On the rear, the Step WGN’s tail gate spoiler has been tweaked to make it look sportier. The updates don’t end there. Under the van’s hood will be a dual-motor sport hybrid system, and it will be given a new suspension tuning too.
As for the safety features, all Step WGN models will be getting Honda Sensing safety systems that come as standard. This system includes adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking system, forward collision warning, Honda LaneWatch. Furthermore, it features blind spot information system, cross traffic monitor, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist and many more.
The entire lineup of the Step WGN will include a 1.5 liter turbocharged mill, which doesn’t quite compare to the Spada Hybrid that comes with a 2.0 liter engine for its electric motors. Customers could get it with a front-wheel-drive that comes as standard, but they can also opt for the all-wheel drive - both of these work with a CVT automatic.
Some of you may be wondering why people would choose the Step WGN over the Odyssey, which a lot of people love. Yes, the Step WGN does have an unusual shape, but it also is bigger in case you cannot tell by looking at the photos - measuring at 4,760mm long and 1,695mm wide. Not only does it accommodate eight passengers comfortably, but it is so huge that Honda offers a model with wheelchair access that comes straight from the factory, complete with a Waku Waku Gate. The term translates to “exciting”. Unlike other minivans, this model does not have a single lift gate, but instead it has a door like that on larger passenger vans. This means that it would be easier to access the third-row seats if you have a door like that.
The Honda Step WGN will have a price tag starting at ¥2,455,920 or US$21,830. We can’t think of a more perfect van for large families.
