2018 Hyundai Kona small crossover spotted at commercial shoot in Portugal

Article by Christian A., on May 11, 2017

Previously, we have read reports about the upcoming small crossover produced by the South Korean automaker Hyundai. The first official teaser revealed LED accented sexy headlights, main lamp units located down low with the taillights fitted with LED to complete the matching look. Named after a famous American location, the Hyundai Kona was recently spotted donning an undisguised look. Is the official reveal close at hand?

Although a reveal is expected to happen sometime this summer, Hyundai's soon-to-be-released Kona has been seen without any cover during a promotional video shoot in Lisbon, Portugal. By the looks of it, the new crossover is looking swanky.

From the images, we can observe some familiar design patterns but nevertheless it is one of the more captivating design coming from the South Korean automaker.

With this certain car being used for an ad, we can safely assume that the Hyundai vehicle in the post is the range-topping variant packed with all the cool features. The highlights of the interior of the Kona include the instrument dials with a classic, analogue look and the infotainment display, which comes with a bulky and rectangular design that is situated on top of the center mounted air vents and climate control dials.

The front design of the Kona exudes a Jeep Cherokee-ish vibe with its slim, pseudo headlights. The lights located beneath the thin units are actually the Kona's real fixtures. Also spotted is the large gaping grille that is akin to the recently revamped Sonata, in which the Honda claimed that this design portrays a "voluminous" and an "aggressive" output. Moreover, at the rear part, the current automotive design trend which is an extrusive floating roof is also spotted finished with a 2 tone paint design with a dominating orange body that is contradicted by a black glossy roof.

Plastic body finish covers the lower part of the body for a more rugged aura, and Hyundai Kona also is fitted with a flared wheel arch design and has an increased ground clearance. Kona is said to be largely based on the i20 supermini, but its engine will be taken from a larger i30.

When the Hyundai Kona will be unleashed to the public, it will go head to head against its main rivals-the equally polarizing Nissan Juke, Chevrolet Trax, and Ford Ecosport. Like most vehicles clashing in their tier, it is assumed that the Kona will possibly be offered as a front wheel drive layout. For the record, the South Korean automaker claimed that its upcoming release will boast of a class-leading interior room.

The all new B-SUV will become the 4th member of the brand's SUV line-up in Europe joining in the ranks of Tucson, Santa Fe and Grand Santa Fe. The 2018 Hyundai Kona will have its debut either this summer or at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, which is 4 months from now.
