Many have been excited with the impending arrival of the next-generation Jeep Wrangler and the new 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which is slated to be the brand’s new range-topping model. Jeep has yet to officially unveil the next-generation Wrangler and the Grand Wagoneer, which are slated to be launched for the 2018 and 2019 model years, respectively.
While it seemed it would take longer before we could get a good glimpse of these new models, a purported leak occurred during a dealer presentation. An attendee of the dealer event managed to snap some shots of the presentation slides using a smartphone. Blurry as they may be, but the photos are clear enough to show the Jeep brand’s upcoming vehicle lineup.
The new vehicles – lurking on a black background – include (from left to right) the Renegade, Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Grand Wagoneer. However, the five-vehicle lineup does not include the new Jeep Compass.
As for the new generation of the Jeep Wrangler, the leaked pictures show a model looking similar to the Wrangler that has been featured in current spy photos. Still featuring a tall seven-slot grille flanked by large, round headlights, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler also continues to feature a rough design.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler shown on the leaked pictures seemingly dons a front end marked by thin LED (light emitting diode) running light strips on the wide front fenders -- is a styling cue seen on the Grand Cherokee. Rear end of the 2018 Wrangler, meanwhile, features rectangular taillights with subtle ‘X’ shape inside – which serves as tribute to the rear lighting elements found on its Renegade sibling.
Moreover, the rear end of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler still features a spare tire affixed to the swinging rear door. This new generation of the Wrangler may feature a more lightweight construction and an eight-speed transmission. Jeep may decide to offer a diesel and hybrid version of the new generation Wrangler following launch. Jeep is expected to unveil the next generation of the Wrangler at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show in January and commence its production early that year.
On the other hand, the 2019 Jeep Grand Wagoneer – as the leaked photo shows – is larger and more imposing than the Grand Cherokee. Up front, the Grand Wagoneer features a wider fascia marked by a more prominent grille trimmed in chrome. Its headlights and taillights are now LED units. The rear end of the Grand Wagoneer features a boxy design with twin exhaust tips integrated in the lower end of the rear fascia. Jeep is hoping to pit the Grand Wagoneer against the best premium SUVs around the world, with Jeep top honcho Mike Manley pegging the price at between $130,000 and $140,000.
