Ford to release 2018 Shelby GT350 and GT350R Mustang in the fall

Article by Christian A., on April 20, 2017

Ford Motor Company confirmed that the 2018 Shelby GT350 and the 2018 Shelby GT350R Mustang will be available and is expected to arrive in various showrooms in the fall of this year. The 2018 version will be the same as its 2017 counterparts with the exception being that Ford will be offering three new colors for the exterior. These are Kona Blue, Lead Foot Gray, and Orange Fury.

That only new colors are offered is not much of a surprise is it was late last year when Ford confirmed that if the release of the 2018 model year would push through, there will no changes from the 2017 version. The announcement was made Monday, April 17, and is considered significant as this day is also celebrated as National Mustang Day.

The new models will be powered by the same FPC 5.2-liter V8 engine which can deliver 526 hp and offer a peak torque of 429 lb.-ft. There will also be the transmission, differential coolers, and engine oil, to ensure that the vehicle is cooled properly especially when on the track. Fitted to the 2018 versions as standard is the exceptional braking system which comes with the Brembo six-piston calipers and the two-piece 15.5-inch front rotors. It even has the MagneRide damping system to make sure that the 2018 versions remain well-balanced.

Ford revealed that for the two models, an Electronics Package will be offered. This will include the nine-speaker audio system, voice-activated navigation system, and the SYNC 3. Available as well is the Convenience Package. Under this option, the Recaro manual seats, which come with the cooled and heated six-way power sport seats, will be replaced with the Miko suede inserts. This will be not just for the driver but the passenger as well.

Customers who want something new though could go for the lesser variants. With this, they will get a model whose front section has a new design with the headlights made more angular. It will also have a hood that goes further down. This version though would not have the V6 engine but come with the V8 ones, either the 2.3-liter version or the 5.0-liter engine. On the inside, customers will see that the center stack has a new layout and they will have the choice to have the digital instrument panel if they so choose.

National Mustang Day for Ford though is not centered only on the reveal on the status of the Mustang but it also aims to highlight the artistic efforts of Ehab Kaoud, the brand’s very own interior design chief. Kaoud has been known to make digital pieces that come in vibrant colors. In honor of his contributions, Ford released a video which showcased many of his wonderful creations. It should be noted that Kaoud himself was part of the team that worked on the exterior of the 2015 model.
