Even as Volkswagen has just started taking orders for the VW Arteon in Germany. Arteon fanatics are already asking for a wagon variant of the Passat sedan. Some people actually prefer a long-roof version of it. It’s an awesome idea, if you ask us.
Luckily, the company admitted that they have thought of it already. In fact, as early as now, the people from Wolfsburg are referring to it as a “shooting brake”, but decided to just call it a wagon instead. Maybe so it doesn’t sound too old-school.
Don’t lose hope, guys! Elmar-Marius Licharz, Head of VW’s Full-Size Product Lines, did say that it is possible. However, from a business perspective, it will have to depend on the current Arteon’s success. If the sedan version becomes a hit, and receives a stamp of approval, then they will add the wagon to extend the lineup. So if you are reading this, then show some support if you want the wagon variant.
Now, let us talk about the possibilities. So if Volkswagen does push through with the Arteon wagon, or the variant, or whatever it will be called - what features will it have? Well, as a wagon it should retain its rear doors and at the same time, have a much larger trunk than the sedan, holding up to 563 liter of luggage. And it provides an astonishing capacity of 1,557 liters when the seats are folded down. This will definitely be the more macho version, only because it has the ability to carry more things. But I bet both will just be as appealing.
However, the company did not mention anything about the interior and its features. Though hopefully, it will come with a spacious legroom, leather seats, and massage functions too. Other admired features are the 9.2 inch infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, and easy open trunk.
As for the cost, it’ll definitely be priced higher than the standard model which is at €49,325 (for the 280 horsepower 2.0 TSI engine). However, prices will most likely drop since lesser engines will be added to the range in the next few months. And as of now, there are only two engine options available - the other one being the 2.0 BiTDI, priced from €51,600. To give you an idea, a wagon variant of the VW Arteon would be around €1,000 more than the Passat sedan. That’s if it will come out in the market.
