For those who think that the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Polo is a kinda small, here is very good news. The German carmaker is finally introducing the sixth generation of the VW Polo supermini, and customers would love the fact that it is larger to accommodate both passengers and their cargo.
More than being a bit more spacious, the new 2018 VW Polo features a whole design that is now dynamic. In addition, the new VW Polo is available with a more efficient engine as well as innovative driver assistance systems. With all these attributes, the sixth generation of the VW Polo is set to continue the success story of its predecessors, of which more than 14 million have been sold to date. That figure doesn’t include other versions of the Polo that had been sold around the world ever since the first generation of the supermini was introduced.
Compared to the fifth generation that was launched in 2009, the sixth-gen Polo has grown in terms of length (at 4,053 mm), width (at 1,751 mm) as well as wheelbase (at 2,564 mm). The sixth generation of the Polo, however, is slightly shorter in terms of height (at 1,446 mm). Despite its shorter height, the gen-6 Polo offers more head room both in the front cabin (1,019 mm) and in the rear cabin (964 mm). Amazingly, the newest iteration of the Polo offers 351 liters of trunk volume, around 71 liters more than in the previous generation. In addition, the front and rear tracks of the new Polo are also wider than in the previous model at 1,525 mm and 1,505 mm, respectively.
Interestingly, the new Polo is available with a number of driver assistance systems previously found only for the Golf and Passat. These include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Traffic Alert, Park Assist system, Keyless Access, Front Assist, City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring.
The sixth-gen Polo will be available in three standard trim lines: Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. It will also be available in the new Polo GTI (with 147 kW of output) and Polo Beats (with a 300W sound system from Beats) special flavors. The new Polo Trendline has starting price of EUR12,975 in Germany. Order books in Europe open later this year with deliveries set to commence in January 2017.
