Acura is rolling out this month the latest iteration of its mid-size three-row luxury sports utility vehicle – the 2019 Acura MDX. The sixth installment of Acura’s third-generation luxury SUV, the 2019 MDX boasts of enhancements in drivability and interior fitment as well as availability of new premium exterior colors and an A-Spec sport appearance package.
For the 2019 model year, the Acura MDX is still powered by a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine that delivers 290 hp of max output and 267 lb.-ft. of peak torque. As standard, the MDX comes as a front-wheel drive unit, although it could also be availed in SH-AWD (Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive) configuration. Previously available only on the MDX Sport Hybrid, Acura's Active Damper System (ADS) is now available on all versions of the SUV, providing greater levels of handling and ride comfort.
The V6 engine of the 2019 Acura MDX is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission, which now allow for a smoother, more seamless acceleration feel, as programmed to deliver better acceleration, towing and pulling capabilities when needed. Likewise, the upgraded Idle Stop system is now standard on all MDX versions, boasting of faster engine re-start response and operational smoothness.
Inside, the 2019 Acura MDX comes standard with 4-way power lumbar adjustments for the driver and front passenger seats. The mid-size three-row luxury SUV comes available with Desert Olive Ash wood trim, high-contrast seat and door panel stitching, as well as contrasting front seat side garnishes. Acura has updated the second-row seat configuration for the Technology and Entertainment packages, and added a trim-exclusive matching wood center console trim for the Advance Package.
Meanwhile, the available exterior colors for the 2019 MDX has been expanded to nine shades, including the Gunmetal Metallic. Four of these finishes are new premium colors: Canyon Bronze Metallic, Majestic Black Pearl and Performance Red Pearl, as well as Apex Blue Pearl that is exclusive for the A-Spec.
The 2019 Acura MDX marks the arrival of a new sport appearance variant -- A-Spec. Available only in SH-AWD configuration, the MDX A-Spec sports an aggressive new front fascia, body-colored lower sills as well as larger-diameter exhaust finishers. The grille, headlights, window surround and rear tailgate spoiler of the MDX A-Spec boasts of gloss-black and dark chrome trim. This variant of the MDX rides on wider 20-inch Shark Grey aluminum alloy wheels shod with low profile 265/45-series tires.
Inside, the 2019 Acura MDX A-Spec is provided with sport seats trimmed in rich red or black leather (with black Alcantara inserts and high-contrast stitching), thicker-rimmed A-Spec-badged steering wheel with paddle shifters, distinct A-Spec gauges, Alcantara door inserts, sport pedals, an exclusive A-Spec door step garnish and gloss-black trim.
Acura will also offer the 2019 MDX Sport Hybrid starting August 2019, with a price still undisclosed.
The 2019 Acura MDX is available at a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $44,300 plus $995 destination and handling. The new MDX A-Spec has a starting MSRP of $54,800 plus $995 destination and handling.
