Honda has commenced sales of the latest iterations of the Honda Civic Hatchback and the Honda Civic Type R. Both models of the Civic have been upgraded for the 2019 model year, especially inside their cabins. Interested customers could now head out to their nearest Honda retailers to avail of the new 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback and the new 2019 Honda Civic Type R.
The Honda Civic Hatchback is one of the cash cows in the carmaker’s Civic lineup. Accounting for around 20 percent of all Civic sales, the Civic Hatchback is on its way to become best-selling car in the United States in 2018, thereby defending its crown it has held in the past two years. For 2019, the Civic Hatchback will still be available in five trims: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L with Navigation and Sport Touring. Its core remains the 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected turbo in-line 4-cylinder engine with two power levels. This engine delivers 174 hp of max output in LX, EX and EX-L Navi trims, as well as 180 hp in peak output in Sport and Sport Touring trims.
As standard, the 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback (all trims) feature the Honda Sensing safety and driver-assistive technologies, which include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow; Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS) and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM).
On the other hand, the 2019 Honda Civic Type R is still the carmaker’s most powerful production car, as served by an exclusive 2.0-liter direct-injected VTEC Turbo 4-cylinder engine that delivers 306 hp of max output to the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The 2019 iteration of the Civic Type R sees the addition of a new exterior color, Sonic Gray Pearl. Championship White remains available as an exterior color exclusive to the Civic Type R.
Both the 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback and the new 2019 Honda Civic Type R come with a number of interior updates that include improved voice recognition and Bluetooth connectivity as well as an updated Display Audio system and a USB sub-cord. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration are now standard on EX trims and above.
Furthermore, both models feature upgraded steering wheel controls, an electronic parking brake with an indicator light, and a center console with larger cupholders. Models with dual-zone climate control now come with physical buttons for fan speed.
The new 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback can be availed at a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $21,450 plus $895 in destination and handling. The 2019 Honda Civic Type R, meanwhile, comes with a starting MSRP of $35,700, which excludes $895 in destination and handling.
