The upcoming Burton European Open (BEO) scheduled from January 13 to 19 2014 in Crap Sogn Gion in Laax, Switzerland will showcase a MINI Paceman dressed with a creative rendering by Urban Art Illustrator Andreas Preis. In 2012, a MINI Countryman was worked up by the PirateArtCrew snowboard artists to include the vehicle in an art installation.
For this year, Preis will have to work his magic. Known for his striking designs on skateboards and snowboards, Preis will take on the MINI Paceman and transform it into a wild MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST just in time for the start of the Burton European Open. MINI is a global partner of Burton and official presenting partner of the Burton Global Event Series (BGES).
The MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST will have its first public appearance against the backdrop of the Burton European Open snowboard competitions and in front of the C_ART container that will be made accessible to the public in selected periods.
Known for his perfectly executed, highly detailed and innovative illustrations, Preis started his MINI Paceman SNOW BEAST project by choosing five heraldic animals that symbolize mountains and snow.
First is the ibex, which represents ambition and then the eagle for vision. He also chose the lynx for gracefulness and the wolf for teamwork. Last but the least, he choose the owl to represent wisdom. Preis will appear live on stage in the C_ART container designing Burton Custom Snowboards.
One of the main features of the new MINI Paceman is the highly advanced chassis which provides a reinterpretation of that well-known go-kart feel. On the front axle, there is the MacPherson spring strut with the forged cross members that works in coordination with the multi-link suspension on the rear axle. This combination allows the Paceman to have the MINI agility. The brand revealed that the new Paceman will have a lowered sports suspension as standard and will also have the Dynamic Stability Control. Electric Power Steering meanwhile will have the Servotronic function as standard and this is included as it heightens that go-kart feel once inside.
For its drivetrain, MINI will be offering a choice of strong engines with the ALL4 all-wheel drive system as an option. The engines will be available in either a petrol version or a diesel-powered one.
The four engines to be fitted are those in the MINI Cooper D Paceman which can deliver 112 hp (82 kW) while that of the MINI Cooper Paceman is able to offer 122 hp (90 kW). The remaining two are the MINI Cooper SD Paceman which has output of 143 hp (105 kW) and finally the MINI Cooper S Paceman, whose engine can deliver 184 hp (135 kW). The brand revealed as well that it will be including the MINI John Cooper Works Paceman version to the line-up in the near future.
Under the Sports Activity Coupé, customers are offered the option to have the ALL4 all-wheel drive system. This will be the second model to have that option with the first being the MINI Countryman. Design-wise the MINI Paceman has always been envisioned to be a four-seat vehicle. Offered as standard will be the sports seats not only for the driver but even for the passenger sitting in front.
The rear meanwhile will have two individual seats that offer an excellent amount of headroom and shoulder room. These seats in the rear are able to provide excellent comfort with remarkable support offered as well.
The side window controls of the MINI Paceman have been integrated in the 3D door trim which has been made more pronounced. Its tailgate on the other hand has a high opening but with the low boot ensures that occupants can access the luggage area in comfort. Actual load capacity of the luggage compartment is at 330 liters but once the backrests of the rear seats have been folded down, this can go as high as 1,080 liters.
