Aston Martin has showcased a special version of the four-door Rapide S sports saloon called RapidE Concept, its newest fully electric car, outside of Lancaster House in London. The unveiling was attended by his Royal Highness Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and her Royal Highness Duchess of Cambridge Catherine, as well as by the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and his wife Peng Liyuan.

This concept was developed in cooperation with Williams Advanced Engineering, which has a facility located in Grove, Oxfordshire. It was exhibited in order to support the British government’s GREAT campaign. This is a creative summit that was organized in order to serve as a platform displaying the best of what the country has to offer.

The campaign also hopes to inspire people not just to visit and study in the UK but to invest and do business as well. According to Aston Martin CEO Dr Andy Palmer, the company expects luxury electric vehicles to be a fundamental part of its product portfolios in the future.

Palmer adds that the brand is more than happy to welcome ChinaEquity to be part of the next phase of the project’s development. This RapidE Concept clearly shows the brand’s determination and capacity to develop sports cars that have low-emission and even zero-emissions, concludes Palmer.

This agreement between the company and ChinaEquity to delve more into the possibility of developing a production version of the RapidE was announced during the same Lancaster House event.

If the collaboration with the Chinese investment group is successful, production of the sports car will be done at its Gaydon, Warwickshire headquarters with the expectation of bringing it to the market within two years.

During the signing of the agreement, ChinaEquity Chairman Chaoyong Wang shared that they are happy that Aston Martin is not just about giving a high performance customers’ driving experience but that the brand also practices social responsibility by developing new electric cars that have zero emissions.

Wang adds that they are more than excited to be part in developing the RapidE and making a great contribution to the Sino-British clean energy and the overall green environmental strategy.

ChinaEquity is more than certain that there will be a number of opportunities for the RapidE and electric cars in general not just in china but the world at large, Wang declares.

Rt Hon Oliver Letwin MP, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, declares that while Aston Martin has long been a well-known British brand, their agreement with ChinaEquity is more than welcome. Letwin was one of those who supported the RapidE’s development.

Letwin adds that this agreement is a good case of how businesses in Britain and China can work together and establish relations in order to benefit the economy of the UK. Letwin further says that it also reveals how a partnership with China and UK can innovate the low emission solutions available in order to confront the important global issues like that of air quality.
