Audi sales rise 17.1 percent in September thanks to China demand

Audi achieved sales of 120,200 automobiles in September, a growth of 17.1 percent compared to 2010 figures, due partly to strong demand from China. According to Audi head of marketing and sales, Peter Schwarzenbauer, they had already equaled their sales record for all of 2010 in China during the first week of October. He added that they want to exceed the 300,000 mark for the first time this year. Since the start of the year, Audi has sold a total of 973,200 vehicles throughout the world, an increase of 17.4 percent compared to 2010 data.

In China, which is the largest market of Audi (Hong Kong included), the carmaker sold 29,476 units last month, which is an upturn of 33.2 percent versus 2010 data. Since January, the company has shipped 226,010 automobiles in the area, an expansion of 29.2 percent. In Germany, the September sales of the company improved 7.5 percent to 20,002 deliveries.

Total sales this year, increased 15 percent to 185,022 automobiles. Thanks to the deliveries in the United Kingdom, which is Audi's third biggest market, the company's European sales increased 15.7 percent to 18,653 vehicles in September. From January this year, Audi has sold 93,781 vehicles in the UK, a boost of 13.2 percent beyond last year's stats.

All in all in Europe, Audi September sales were 67,200 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 9 percent. Since the beginning of the year, Audi has sold 552,000 vehicles in the area, an improvement of 12.3 percent. In the U.S., the brand sold 9,725 units last month, a boost of 19.3 percent. Between January and August, overall sales in the brand's fourth-largest market increased to 84,981 units, a surge of 15.5 percent over 2010 figures.
