Audi teases the A3 sedan ahead of 2013 New York Auto Show

Article by Christian A., on March 25, 2013

Audi has added a video on its YouTube channel that shows off a compact car with quilted seats. Fans believe that this means that a new Audi A3 will make it to the New York Auto Show. In this 43-second long video, there’s a man sitting in a non-distinguishable Audi. It looks as if the camera is positioned between the front seats.

This man then says that he is on the “hottest seat in town.” It seems that he’s at the back seat of a compact sedan with quilted leather side bolsters. These leather quilts are exactly the same as the stitching on the RS Q3 compact utility that was unveiled in early 2013. After the camera pulls back and a big sheet is thrown over the car, one gets the impression that it’s the eagerly-awaited Audi A3 sedan.

The concept form of the Audi A3 sedan was launched at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show. It’s likely to be equipped with modified versions of the 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 gasoline and diesel engines from Audi.

They would be partnered with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Furthermore, these cars will be offered with front- or all-wheel drive. The online launch of the Audi A3 is set to be on March 27 at 12:01 AM CET but for those on the east coast, it’s set at 7:01 PM on March 26. If you want to see the actual Audi A3 sedan, visit the New York Auto Show.

Audi A3 Sedan has an athletic posture, and it is accurate and very expressive in all details. Its styling crosses between the traditional three-box idea and the coupé ethos. The "tornado line" design touch creates a distinctive light-refracting edge running along the entire side. The overhangs are short. The four-door vehicle has a 2.64 m (8.66 ft) long wheelbase and a total length of 4.46 m (14.63 ft).

Over the side sills, the vibrant line lifts more sharply than on the other A3s. The sides are even more curved, and the wheel arches are a little more flared. With a width of 1.80 m (5.91 ft), the A3 Sedan is 11 mm (0.43 in) broader than the A3 Sportback; its height (1.42 m [4.66 ft]) maintains at nine mm (0.35 in) lower than the Sportback.

This four-door vehicle also conveys liberated lines along its hood contours, in its bumpers, air intakes and in the implementation of its single frame grille. At the back, the spoiler is combined with the trunk lid, and the lights highlight the vehicle's lateral lines with their wide and low slices. LEDs are available options. Audi will also offer full-LED headlights right at launch - their advanced technology and distinct look emphasise the A3 Sedan’s incomparable position.

The Audi A3 Sedan interior’s is characterised by remarkable consideration of details. The shapes and forms are crisply conceived, and a long arch reaches across the windshield’s width. The instrument panel has a slender, curving front, and the centre console slightly turns in to the driver. The optional colour driver information system (DIS) display shows highly detailed 3D graphics.
