When we thought we’ve seen all the cars and will not be surprised, Bentley unveiled today the Mulsanne Hybrid Concept, its first plug-in hybrid model. What’s more interesting is that the new Hybrid Concept also previews a dedicated version of the al-new SUV available in 2017. How about that, a hybrid SUV from Bentley.
Set to make its workd debut at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition on Sunday 20thApril, the new Bentley Hybrid Concept leads the way in bringing new powertrain choice to the luxury automotive sector. Bentley didn’t give us any details regarding the powertrain, but we can see from the images that the vehicle uses the same 6752cc twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 505 bhp on the standard Mulsanne.
However, using an electric motor that generates 126 bhp, the total output of the hybrid system is expected to be around 631 bhp. Despite the power increase, CO2 emissions are reduced by up to 70 percent, without any compromise to the exquisite luxury, timeless design and industry-leading refinement for which Bentley has become renowned.
Moreover, the models using this hybrid system will be capable of driving at least 50 km (31 miles) on electric power alone. Regarding the design of the Bentley Hybrid Concept, the Mulsanne received copper accents for the exterior and interior in order to highlight the car’s electrical veins. Furthermore, copper details are found on the headlamps, radiator shell bezel, brake calipers, feature line details and badges.
Inside, we find copper accents on the hand-crafted veneers fascias, switch bezels and instruments. Copper cross stitching to the Mulliner Driving Specification diamond-quilted interior provides the finishing flourish.
