Bentley Power on Ice program will return in February 2013

The Bentley Power on Ice program is set to return in February 2013, to be starred by the carmaker’s touted perfect Grand Tourer, the Bentley Continental GT. The Bentley Power on Ice program will be the perfect venue for the Continental GT’s driving prowess, as the vehicle is fitted with an all-wheel-drive system that assures maneuverability in all conditions, snow and icy conditions included.

The program offers existing owners, enthusiasts and aspiring drivers the perfect opportunity to explore the extreme limits of the Continental GT on the frozen lakes of northern Finland. Participants of the Bentley Power on Ice program will be led by a team of expert instructors, who will guide them on exploring a range of driving techniques they could employ while riding the Continental GT.

One of these expert instructors is no less than four-time World Rally champion and modern-day Bentley Boy Juha Kankkunen. Kankkunen is considered as an expert at driving Bentleys on ice – as he broke his own Ice Speed Record in February 2011, driving a Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible to 205 mph (330 km/h) on the frozen Baltic Sea off the coast of Finland.

Participants will be flown to the town of Kuusamo and will be then escorted to the exclusive ski resort of Ruka, which is around 60 km from the edge of the Arctic Circle. They will be billeted at the luxury Chalet Ruka Peak boutique hotel. The two-day Bentley Power on Ice program focuses on driving both the V8 and W12 versions of the all-wheel-drive Continental GT on the ice of the local lakes, on tracks prepared by Bentley’s winter driving team.

In the line of top luxury sports cars, the Bentley Continental GTC V8 convertible and GT V8 coupé ranks high in power-to-emissions standards with its 4.0L twin turbocharged engines.

This new and remarkable V8 engine from Bentley achieves a peak power output of 500bhp (507PS/373kW) at 6000rpm and an exceptional maximum torque of 600Nm (487lb.ft.) seen across the entire revolution range from 1700 up to 5000rpm. These impressive numbers certainly provide an exciting performance and delivers incredible power that is consistent with Bentley’s tradition. When matched with the innovative 8-speed automatic transmission, these result to an acceleration time of less than five seconds for the zero-to-sixty mph sprint, and a maximum speed of more than 180 miles per hour (290kph).

Aside from great performance standards, the modern V8 Continental cars accomplish remarkable heights in fuel efficiency and rates of CO2 emissions in the luxury cars category. They are also adept in driving to more than 500 miles (800km) with just a full tank of fuel. The official figures and statistics are to be published in the first quarter of 2012.

The launch of the latest V8 Continental cars pursues the environmental commitment made by Bentley to develop a cutting-edge powertrain that is 40% more efficient in utilizing fuel and reducing carbon emissions.

To guarantee a spontaneous and indiscernible shift from V8 to V4 status with slight throttle charge, the V8 engine employs variable displacement through an exceptionally advanced engine control technology.

Other cutting-edge features of the V8 include low-friction bearings, high pressure direct injection, heat management, advanced turbo charger packaging, and energy recovery through the charging process.
