BMW Group reported April sales of 26,793 vehicles

It appears that BMW Group, which includes Bmw and MINI brands, sold 26,793 vehicles, a 6.1 percent increase from 25,247 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. According to the official press release, BMW Group sold 102,522 vehicles in the first four months of this year, a 13.7% increase compared to 90,204 vehicles in the same period in 2011. Bmw brand sales increased 12.0 percent in April as the Germans sold 21,062 vehicles compared to 18,801 vehicles sold in April, 2011.

Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 15.7 percent on sales of 82,611 compared to 71,417 sold in the first four months of 2011. According to Bmw, the best performing vehicles were the X5 (3,561 units), the 3-Series (9,003) and 6-Series (513). MINI brand reported sales of 5,731 automobiles in April and this means a decrease of 11.1 percent from the record 6,446 sold in April 2011. Year-to-date, MINI sales in the U.S. are up 6.0 percent on volume of 19,911 compared to 18,787 in the first four months of 2011. Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America said that he expects a solid growth through the rest of Spring and into Summer.

The defining feature of how the body of the 2011 BMW X5 was designed is that it has well-balanced proportions that highlight the agility and powerful presence of the model. By having short overhangs for both the front and the rear and combined with the long wheelbase plus the light-alloy wheels, it gets a better balance, visually, for the front section and the rear end.

Meanwhile the flared wheel arches, with its square shape, provides a clue as to what kind of all-wheel drive traction the model has to offer and even what the off-road capability is. Of course, the way the lines on the body sweep starting from the front area and going up to the rear wheels convey that front-rear weight distribution of an almost perfect 50-50, a quality that is the core of the well-known driving dynamics of the X5.

On the front, the hood comes in a unique curve. Combined with the dual round headlights and the large kidney grille BMW is known for, it results in this region being able to showcase its presence and power. With the new X5, the brand is showing that indeed, the design has been reinterpreted.

The obvious proof of this is how the front fascia has been redesigned and the placement of the fog lamps. Because more elements now come in the same color as that of the body, this gives the front section the appearance of being lower than it really is. At the bottom portion of its body, one can see as well that the black trim has been made narrower.

Another change on the front end is the central and the outer air intakes. With their size increased, this gives onlookers a hint as to the possible increase in power output. The front section also shows a silver protection plate, matte-finished, that covers the central air intakes while width. This not only helps highlight the SAV’s muscular attributes but also puts more focus on the character of the X5.

Still on the front section, both the fog lamps and the Xenon Adaptive dual round headlight have been placed higher and positioned that much closer to the vehicle’s kidney grille. Further, the fixtures of the headlight are able to put emphasis on the sporting intentions of this model and its high quality. The trademarked corona rings of the brand are still there and act not just as the position lights but even as daytime driving lights.

Going to the rear section, while the apron does indeed have a new design, it is able to complement the graphic structure seen at the front region. Meanwhile on the dual exhaust pipes, there are intricately designed surrounds that come in the same color as that of the body and thus help highlight the premium quality of the X5. There is also a matte-finished silver protection element in the rear and by placing it in the center, underlines the durability and strength, qualities that make it appropriate to be driven off-road. On each of the sides are strong horizontal lines that stretch elegantly.

The first begins from the surface of the hood which then effortlessly flows to the waistline. The second is more pronounced and starts at the wheel arches in the front, on the same level as that of the door handle, and then slowly goes up in a curved manner to the rear section. These character lines represent the presence, stability, and power that one can expect from the new X5.
