Leaked BMW launch plans from 2017 to 2021 are setting everyone abuzz

Article by Christian A., on February 20, 2017

Carmakers usually leave us thirsty for information on whether they would introduce a new, refreshed or face-lifted vehicle and on when they intend to launch it. There are reasons for this. One, they want to make customers become excited for a new product. Likewise, they want to build hype for a certain vehicle one at a time.

BMW probably doesn’t like it, but it seems that its launch plans have been leaked. Somehow, Auto Motor und Sport was able to get hold of BMW’s launch plans and has reported it. The list seems pretty comprehensive and is good for the medium term, as it outlines the German premium carmaker’s vehicle launches starting this year to 2021.

For this year, BMW will be introducing 12 new and face-lifted models. First off will be the BMW 6 Series facelift, which will be followed by the BMW i3 facelift in the summer. Also coming this year – in July in particular -- are the face-lifted forms of the coupe and convertible version of the BMW 2 Series.

According to the leaked launch plans, BMW will also be launching this year the BMW 6 Series GT, the BMW X7 and the BMW M5 (F90). Also up for grabs this year is the face-lifted iteration of the BMW M2 as well as the new M2 GTS. The new BMW Z5 is also primed for launch this year. The list grabbed by Auto Motor und Sport also has the BMW X2 and the BMW X3 scheduled for introduction in 2017.

BMW’s product barrage for 2018 is headlined by the BMW X3 M, which should arrive early next year. A possibly international version of the long-wheelbase X1 BMW X1 L is also scheduled in 2018, as well as the BMW i8 Spyder. The German luxury carmaker is also bound to introduce the BMW M4 GT4 and the BMW X4 in 2018, as well as the new BMW 3 Series and the new BMW X5. A plan to launch the BMW 8 Series Coupe is slated to occur by the end of 2018.

For 2019, BMW is intending to release the new BMW 1 Series as well as the convertible variant of the BMW 8 Series. Although BMW has said that the BMW iNext will be launched in 2021, the list says it will be introduced earlier in 2019.

Interestingly, the launch plans obtained by Auto Motor und Sport didn’t list any vehicle for 2020. It did say, however, that the new BMW i5 is on its way in 2021.

As for the veracity of the information grabbed by Auto Motor und Sport, we are still not sure whether it is real or not. Nonetheless, it is pretty exciting to see what BMW has in store for us in the next five years to 2021.
