The debut of the new BMW M2 Coupe is getting closer and we already told you guys that it will be revealed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Today, Autocar said that the Bavarian manufacturer will unveil the concept version of the M2 Coupe at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. This means that we will have to wait and see who had the best sources.

Still, thanks to the British magazine we managed to find out more details about the hot coupe, which will take on the Audi RS3. Just like its predecessor, the 1-Series M Coupe, the new M2 Coupe will use a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder direct petrol engine.

According to BMW M boss Friedrich Nitschke, the M2 will use a different engine than the one found on the more potent M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan. The engine is described as an all-new development and it is dubbed S57 B30, based on the B57 powerplant that will be used on the next-generation 7-Series.

The engines of the current M4 and M3 models are based on the older N55 engine. Regarding the power developed by the new engine, BMW M boss says that the magic number will be 400 hp. This means more powerful than the M235i Coupe and less powerful than the M4 Coupe.

Regarding the performances, expect the M2 Coupe to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the M4 and 0.5 seconds faster than the 1-series M Coupe. Top speed will be limited at 155 mph or 250 km/h.

The design will follow the same path as the 1-Series M Coupe with new front and rear bumpers, enlarged front and rear fenders as well as a boot lid and 19-inch alloy wheels offered as standard.
