BMW officially announces exclusive design study for Auto China 2014, could be the 9-Series

Article by Christian A., on April 17, 2014

The 9-Series Concept was just a rumor but today BMW made our day as it officially announced that at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show or Auto China 2014 it will present an exclusive design study. According to the official press release, the new concept car provides a long-term outlook on its perception of modern luxury.

The concept car which is rumored to be called 9-Series, portrays luxury as a forward-looking fusion of exclusivity and innovation. The focus of the new car remains on outstanding exterior and interior design quality, select materials, seamlessly integrated control units featuring pioneering technology as well as innovative lightweight construction concept.

Previous reports said that the new concept will show a new cockpit philosophy that will be seen on the next-generation 7-Series. Moreover, a new modular platform will be used by the new concept car and German media reported that this will also be used by the next-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom, which will be introduced somewhere in 2016.

We expect the new concept car to feature some of the styling seen on the Gran Lusso Coupe Concept. The Gran Lusso concept car was introduced back in 2013 and was developed together with Pininfarina in order to mark the partnership with the Bavarian carmaker. The Gran Lusso Coupe Concept was powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine that generated 537 hp, same engine used by the BMW 760i.
