BMW Group is still the best-selling luxury carmaker in the world after its namesake BMW brand logged an 8 percent surge in sales to 140,840 in April 2014, bringing it four-month total up 11 percent to 569,100 vehicles. BMW sales chief Ian Robertson remarked that the group manage to post record sales in April, keeping the carmaker on pace to achieve its goal aim of delivering its best ever year to more than two million vehicles.

Leading the way for BMW are its SUVs. In the first four months of 2014, sales of its X1 surged 12 percent, X3 deliveries by 10 percent and X5 volume by 21 percent.

With Mercedes-Benz logging deliveries of 507,353 (up 15 percent) and Audi posting volumes of 561,9000 (up 12 percent) in the first four months of 2014, the rivalry between the three German carmakers is heating up for this year, when they expect to register record deliveries as booted by rising demand in the US and China.

Mercedes and Audi logged global deliveries of 133,077 units (up 14 percent) and 149,050 vehicles (up 12 percent) in April. For the full year 2014, BMW Group expects group sales to top 2 million vehicles for the first time this year, reaching a milestone two years earlier than planned.

BMW Group sales, including the Mini brand, surged rose 4 percent to 162,093 units in April and 8 percent to 649,118 in the first four months of the year.

European deliveries of BMW and Mini vehicles climbed 2 percent to 283,702 in the first four months of 2014. Their sales in China and the US rose 25 percent (145,716) and 3 percent (110,626), respectively.

The design of the new BMW X1 puts some new touches in order to put focus on the model’s athleticism, elegance, and versatility. In addition to having the usual proportions a BMW model is known for, the X1 also has those vibrant and expressive surfaces. Its look is shaped by the signature design cues of the X model. The combination of the set-back passenger compartment, long wheelbase, and sweeping bonnet, results in putting focus on the dynamic talent of this model.

It even attracts shade and light effects to give a clue as to its agility. That the X model is both sturdy and versatile can be seen in a number of elements like the muscular wheel arches and the black bordering of the body’s lower edge. The most significant change though would have to be the fact that the X1 now displays a more powerful stance, which results in distinguishing even more the brand’s Sports Activity Vehicles.

Inserts on both the front apron and rear apron bring to mind an underguard. Combined with the special side skirt covers along with the circular foglamps placed below the headlights, it helps put focus on many of the X model’s signature features. Meanwhile a larger area of the surfaces, on both the front section and rear, now come in the same color as the body. Further, customers get a wider selection of colors for the exterior with the addition of four new options.

Looking at the front, there are clearly more details that have the same style as the X model. The aura of quality is highlighted through even greater density. The car lines follow a path along the bonnet’s V-shaped curves and converge on the license plate mount on each side of the kidney grille.

These same car lines move downwards, as well as outwards, to the bumper’s lower section in order to result in that all too familiar sweeping “X” seen in X models coming from higher vehicle segments. A new tripartite air intake is included in the X1, a feature that is present in all BMW X models.
