One of the good things about some car-sharing service is that you could switch from one vehicle type to another. For instance, a user usually prefers a coupe or a small car for the travel from home to office. But, when going to an adventure where utility is a requirement, it’s likely that there will be a switch to an SUV.
This is the kind of car-sharing service that premium carmaker Cadillac wants to offer the public. Called “Book by Cadillac,” this car-sharing service allows members full access to the carmaker’s vehicles, without worrying about the hassles and costs of leasing, buying or financing. The main difference is that Cadillac’s car-sharing fleet is composed of its current premium vehicles that offer a whole new level of luxury and comfort from non-premium cars. It primarily targets the growing number of drivers who prefer luxury. Interested individuals could enroll as members of the Book by Cadillac with a flat monthly fee – no more and no less – of just $1,500.
Once one becomes a member of Book by Cadillac’s car-sharing service, he or she could choose to drive any of the available vehicles in the fleet. These vehicles include the Cadillac XT5, CT6, Escalade and V Series – all of which are specified Platinum Level Trim and are of the current model year. Access is given on-demand, with any request pursued through an app installed in a smartphone.
Once the application is approved, the requested Cadillac premium vehicle will be delivered through a white-glove concierge to the member’s preferred location. When the member wants to switch to another premium vehicle, it’s easy to do so anytime at a preferred location. For instance, a member driving a Cadillac CTS during the summer may want to switch to an Escalade by winter. Book by Cadillac will pick up the CTS at a preferred location (within restricted areas), and also deliver the Escalade there.
The flat monthly rate of $1,500 already includes fees for the registration, taxes and insurance, as well as maintenance costs. This means that Cadillac will take care of the vehicle’s insurance and maintenance as well as detailing – and all that members are required to do is to request and drive. In addition, there are no mileage limits, which means members could use their shared premium car as much as they want.
Uwe Ellinghaus, the premium carmaker’s chief marketing officer, remarked that Book by Cadillac is a new option that targets a growing class of luxury drivers looking to access to various cars over time according to their individual needs. Book by Cadillac will be launched first in the New York metro area, with intentions to expand to other locations.
