Its claim was being disputed since the model that was shipped to buyers had a speed limiter to keep it at only 258 mph while the car that set the record had this limiter removed. Some had reasoned out that the factors considered for a “production” vehicle are its number of units sold and produced.
A strong contender for the title was the 1244 hp Hennessey Venom GT, which was tested at a venue different from the Bugatti, which was tested in Germany on VW’s private high-speed track.
The Guinness organization’s review focused on what is considered to be a change to a car’s standard specification. After examining all the required information, Guinness World Records has been satisfied that changing the speed limiter doesn’t amend the fundamental design of the car or its engine.
