Caterham Cars launches its annual Hire-a-7 season in the UK

Article by Christian A., on March 30, 2012

Caterham Cars starts its yearly Hire-a-7 season in time for the summer, enabling UK holidaymakers to roam across the nation in one of the company's expanded fleet of iconic Seven sportscars. Prices start from £175 for a single-day hire and £325 for a two-day hire. Full weekend hire is also available.

Additionally, Caterham has added Roadsport SV with wider chassis and Roadsport with weather protection into the lineup of automobiles available to rent from seven locations. Low weekday rates apply. Discounts are also available for weekends. Driving the Caterham Seven is the only way to truly understand it. It is unlike anything else on the road with its one-of-a-kind handling characteristics.

Contributing to the unrivalled driving experience that this vehicle can provide are the direct race-inspired steering, remarkable maneuverability and alert throttle response. Running until the end of October each year, the Hire-A-7 service is available from: Caterham South, Surrey; Caterham Midlands, Leicester; Open Road Hire, Scottish Highlands; Seven Hire, Gloucestershire; Roadsport Hire, Yorkshire; Highlands Caterham Hire, Scotland; Hire 7, Northern Ireland.

Emma Bloomfield, Caterham Experience Manager, said: “This year is going to be a jamboree of all things British – there’s a real sense of national pride swelling across the land as well as the sense that this summer will have a real party atmosphere."

Caterham added to its Seven range by giving its Supersport model an extremely potent brother: the Caterham Supersport R. The 2-liter Supersport R packs 180bhp and promises track-bred dynamics.

Moreover, the Supersport R possesses lots of circuit-oriented performance essentials just like the standard Supersport. However, the new edition model has a bigger engine as well as a 5-speed gearbox that significantly boosts outright performance.

The Supersport R was designed to sit immediately atop the 1.6-liter Supersport, with its own 2-liter Ford Duratec engine proving its performance and durability on the track after being developed within the 3 years of the brand’s R300 race championship.

Additionally, the new model is competitively priced at £24,995, inclusive of tax, in its self-build variant, and at £27,995 fully-built. It offers a mid-range ‘punch’ and it features 25% more power than the Supersport and 5bhp more compared to the R300 road car.

Furthermore, Caterham Cars revealed that it has entered into a new engineering partnership with Renault. This joint venture deal will result in a new range of vehicles, including an ambitious ‘everyday’ sports car that is going to deliver the brand’s philosophy of ‘accessible fun’ to new markets. However, the Supersport R shows the carmaker’s continuing commitment to further develop the iconic Seven range, which it has been building, engineering, and improving for almost 40 years.

According to Graham Macdonald, Caterham Cars CEO, the Supersport's formula struck a chord among driving enthusiasts and the company is confident that they’ll be able to build and develop on the success of the original model by extending the Seven range so as to include an R model.
