Hardcore Dodge Viper ACR fans want to reclaim its Nurburgring record

Article by Christian A., on July 25, 2017

The Nurburgring is the one track that many automakers want to hold a record of, because only the best of the best do. This time, a group of extraordinary passionate people are trying their best to do everything that they can to make the Viper reclaim its record as the fastest production car to lap the Nurburgring. This is because the Conner Assembly plant in Detroit will official close down in August, and these guys just want to give it the best send off. In a few months, the SRT Viper, which was once Dodge’s front-line war horse for 25 years, will say goodbye.

The company itself does not have plans of sending the Viper to the Nurburgring after doing it twice already, which is why you could tell how passionate the individuals are. In fact, they started a group on Facebook called “The Viper Ring Record Run Powered by Kumho and co-sponsored by Prefix”. They’re raising funds so they could send not one, but two Viper ACRs, from the United States to Germany. In order to do this, they need about $150,000 to $200,000 aside from the sponsorships they have got. To do this, they group started a GoFundMe account earlier this January, and as of now, they have already earned $177,642, which means that the attempt to break records at the Green Hell is a go.

To keep their fans and backers informed, they post updates. And last Sunday, 23rd July, they posted an update early in the morning about a solo time slot on The Ring - except that it was raining, but they have a plan B.

The team has been there for about a week, and the cars had to go through some tests for optimal suspension settings and troubleshooting. And the moment the skies clear, the ACRs will have a go on the Nurburgring, to claim their goal, hopefully. So far, the cars have already claimed 13 titles around US tracks. Currently, it is the electric Nio EP9 that holds the production car record at an impressive 6:45.9. However, there is an issue with the record holder as it has a very limited production. Just like the Radical SR8LM that is not considered a production car since it has no storage, no windshield, and no roof.

In contrast, the Dodge Viper ACR has a completely enclosed passenger compartment, and has actual stuff that a production car needs like proper seats and compartments. So to be fair to the Viper, their main goal is to beat the Lamborghini Huracan Performante’s record that is 6:52. Now, we will just have to wait and see if the American Viper can reach their goal of beating the Lambo’s record.
