All of you folks love the Renault Espace but it appears that the French manufacturer wants to change the next-generation model and it will transform it into a crossover. If yesterday it was just a rumor, this was confirmed at the Frankfurt Motor Show by Mr. Axel Breun a.k.a. Director Design of Concept & Showcar at Renault.
Talking about the Initiale Paris Concept car that was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Breun said that the new vehicle that previews the next-generation Espace shows elements borrowed from an SUV, a crossover but also from a sedan.
And it will indeed, become a crossover. In the concept form, the Initiale Paris continues Renault’s “live cycle” design strategy started by the DeZir. All the Renault concept cars are compared with a petal in the design daisy.
If the DeZir symbolizes love, the Captur Concept symbolizes explore, the R-Space family, the Frenzy work and the Twin’Z and Twin’Run concepts play, the Initiale Paris Concept symbolizes the wisdom.
According to Renault, at some point, everyone aspires to serenity, a time when they can take full advantage of life. The Initiale Paris concept car illustrates open-mindedness and the pleasures and sensations associated with a premium vehicle. “Wisdom” is the sixth petal in the strategy, unveiled at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
With a length of 4.85 meters, the new Renault Initiale Paris is definitely a large car that exudes prestige and a whole new level of interior spaciousness.
As designed, the new Renault Initiale Paris features vigorous grille and muscular shoulders, conveying the vitality of a saloon. Its sculptured wings and large wheels (22 inches) exude the character of a sports utility vehicle. Finally, the vehicle’s glazed surface and a groundbreaking roof -- with a harmonious interplay of light – communicates the lightness and spacious of an MPV.
Renault took inspiration from the worlds of architecture and aeronautics – fields where robustness and lightness go together – in designing the flowing and modern body of the Renault Initiale Paris concept car. For instance, the side windows feature a shape similar to that a feather. Its rear quarter light is shaped like an aircraft tail fin and is home to motorized aerodynamic screens that could be deployed like the flaps of a tail fin.
The new Renault Initiale Paris further depicts the harmony between robustness and lightness through the repetition of a strong graphic design on several of its parts. This graphic design is derived from an assembly of diamond shapes, carrying the spirit and design of a bee hive. It can be found on the grille exterior, the sides and on the wheels. It can also be found floor section where the rear-hinged doors open.
Meanwhile, the structural composition of the Renault Initiale Paris is inspired by the frame of an aeroplane, as well as to the Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower. As its name indicates, the concept pays homage to the French capital, as evidenced by its aluminum and plexiglass roof, which intricately depicts a map of Paris with the city's districts and arteries and even the River Seine shown on the milled structure.
This technical feat results to an impressive level of beauty, thereby defining the "Initiale Paris" signature in particular. This feat also defines Renault in general, since the company virtually had its start on the banks of the River Seine.
