Ferrari 458 Speciale Spider spotted outside the factory in Maranello

Article by Christian A., on August 19, 2014

The Ferrari 458 Spider Speciale was a hot subject this summer and 4WheelsNews was the first website to report about the new vehicle. In addition we reported about the vehicle’s private unveiling at Pebble Beach. Of course, there were many people who doubted that Ferrari will build such a vehicle because they had an insider who told them that it will not see the daylight.

Still, 4WheelsNews had better sources and we were 100% positive that the vehicle will arrive. Today, things were confirmed, unofficially of course, when a 4WheelsNews reader spotted the vehicle outside the Ferrari factory located in Maranello.

You can easily see that this is a Speciale version of the Ferrari 458 Spider due to the stylish side sills. Although the side sills are covered we see the stylish fins behind the camouflage.

During the private unveiling at 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the 458 Speciale Spider (we don’t know how the vehicle will be named and until the official debut we will continue to use this moniker) the vehicle was presented in a metallic yellow exterior finish, featured a new design for the stripes and will arrive with two new wheel designs.

Inside, there are carbon fiber mats but also two plaques that underline the limited edition.

Just like the 458 Spider, the Speciale version will use the same aluminum retractable hardtop which will disappear in just 14 seconds. In order to protect the passengers and provide additional comfort, the vehicle will be fitted with an adjustable electric wind stop that was designed to be held even at speeds in excess of 200 km/h (124 mph).

And speaking of limited edition, Ferrari will produce only 458 units of the 458 Speciale Spider.

Each unit will be powered by the same 4.5-liter V8 engine found on the coupe version, which delivers 605 hp and 540 Nm of torque (398 lb-ft) at 6,000 rpm.

The 458 Speciale is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.0 seconds, to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 9.1 seconds and has a top speed of 200 mph or 320 km/h.

There is no official word but we do expect the new 458 Spider Speciale to make its official debut in October, at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
