Ferrari unveiled today the new FF a.k.a. its most powerful four-seater ever, as well as its first ever four-wheel drive car. FF comes from Ferrari Four (four seats and four-wheel drive) and as expected, the impressive design was made by Pininfarina. The new FF features company’s first ever four-wheel drive system dubbed 4RM (four-wheel drive), which weighs 50 per cent less than a conventional four-wheel drive system, maintaining perfect weight distribution (53 per cent over the rear axle).
The new vehicle is also equipped with the latest magnetorheological damping system (SCM3) but also with the most recent development in carbon-ceramic brakes from Brembo.
Under the hood, we find an impressive 6,262 cc direct injection engine which develops 660 hp @ 8,000 rpm and 683 Nm of torque. Mated to a dual-clutch F1 gearbox,, the car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of 335 km/h or 208 mph.
Ferrari FF promises to deliver a fuel consumption of 15,4 l/100 km and 360 g/km of CO2 emissions. The new model’s class-leading weight-to-power ratio is 2.7 kg/hp. As expected, the car can accommodate four people and their luggage, offering a boot capacity of 450 litres extendable to 800. The official debut of the car will be made in March, at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
The transaxle architecture of the Ferrari FF that positions the engine mid-front while placing the gearbox above the rear axle as well as the placement of 53% of its weight to the back ensures that this car will provide exceptional sporty driving. Further, extra attention was given to ensure that the weight of the car was lessened with the use of new castings for the engine and a bodyshell composed of aluminum alloys as well as a new production process.
The weight of other components has also been decreased. For the interior part, the seats have been optimized with the usage of high-tech materials like magnesium. The third generation Brembo brakes are also made lighter by having carbon-ceramic parts and since wear become negligible when the car is on the road, this makes it long-lasting. All of these combined result in a 2.7 kg/CV weight-power ratio which is now the new standard for this particular type of car.
The lines of the Ferrari were styled by Pininfarina which truly reflects the brand’s signature of ensuring a balance between versatility and sportiness. The spacious cabin and bodyhugging seats can comfortably and easily accommodate 4 people. It has a 450-liter boot that can be increased to 800 liters, provided the back seats are folded down. The end result is that the Ferrari FF is able to give more luggage space compared to other four-door saloons in the market and even in its category.
Everything inside the Ferrari FF has been tailor-made to fit the preferences of the driver with six different colors. It also comes with the best in Frau aniline leathers that have been treated to heighten the natural softness. Other features of the Ferrari FF that can increase enjoyment for both the passengers and driver include a rear-seat infotainment system that has two screens in order to watch TV and DVD, and a 1,280 and 16-channel Dolby Surround Sound stereo system.
