Article by Christian A., on August 29, 2010

Ferrari is collaborating with Chinese artist Lu Hao to create and release the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition. This new limited edition model will mark the first time that Ferrari has created such a special vehicle for China, blending Italian craftsmanship and technology with impeccable Chinese aesthetics elements.

This new Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition will be derived from the mid-front engine two-seater Ferrari 599, and will feature a high performance 12-cylinder engine and technologically advanced elements. Amazingly enough, the Ferrari 599 is considered as the most powerful V12 berlinetta that the Italian sports car maker has ever built.

Ferrari 599 is endowed with Ferrari's most technologically advanced two-seater features, thereby establishing a new benchmark in terms of design, sportiness and driving pleasure. Additionally, the Ferrari 599 features ideal weight distribution (47 percent front/53 percent rear).

Aerodynamically efficient, this sports car has an engine sound that will surely provide a sense of thrill and excitement to its driver. On the other hand, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition will be laden with the HGTE package (Handling GT Evoluzione), making it more dynamic and more athletic.

This is because the HGTE Package is designed to enable a car to be capable of tighter and more dynamic handling as well as sharper cornering. This package also enhances a car's responsiveness and makes it easier to drive. Any car with this package would gain a performance level that would surpass its limits.

Ferrari is planning to produce just 12 examples of the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition. Each example will feature a Rosso Fuoco body finish and silver roof, completed by exquisite Chinese aesthetic elements. These elements are being taken care of by Lu Hao, as inspired by China’s ancient literary traditions, the Silk Road and the Ge Kiln porcelain.

Of course, he included his own interpretation of Chinese culture. As an indication of exclusivity, each Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition will feature a plaque -- engraved with ancient Chinese calligraphic script in the “Xiao Zhuan” style -- bearing the owner's name. Moreover, the Xiao Zhuan script, which is Lu Hao’s finishing touch, will be used all over the limited edition.

For instance, a “China” plate in Xiao Zhuan style is attached to the car's body. Moreover, the numbers on the Rev Counter were transformed into Xiao Zhuan script. The sports car's jade encrusted Engine Start button also features the Xiao Zhuan script.

The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition will also come with a specially designed dedicated luggage, featuring depictions of the Silk Road etched in the leather.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE China Limited Edition

Ferrari, teaming up with Chinese artist Lu Hao, one of China’s most famous and influential contemporary artists, will be releasing in the next months the Ferrari 599 HGTE package in the special China Limited Edition, consisting of less than a dozen specially made two-tone cars in Rosso Fuoco and silver roof, incorporating unique Chinese elements into the design. This is the first time that Ferrari produces a limited edition model to China. Ferrari Italian craftsmanship and cutting edge technology will be matching with the exquisite Chinese aesthetics.

The China Limited Edition car will be based on the Ferrari 599, the high performance 12-cylinder with innovative and technologically advanced features, and will include the HGTE package (Handling GT Evoluzione), designed to deliver even sportier and more dynamic driving.

Lu Hao, in his work with Ferrari, drew inspiration from China’s ancient literary traditions, the peerless Ge Kiln porcelain and the fabled Silk Road, adding his own unique interpretation of Chinese culture. Each car will come with a dedicated owner’s name plaque engraved with ancient Chinese calligraphic script in the “Xiao Zhuan” style as a mark of its exclusivity. Lu Hao’s finishing touch, the Xiao Zhuan script, originated over two thousand years ago during the Qin Dynasty, and will be used throughout the car: a “China” plate in Xiao Zhuan style is studded at the car body, the numbers on the Rev Counter morph into Xiao Zhuan script, and the ancient script is found on the jade encrusted Engine Start button as well. A dedicated luggage has also been designed for this new model, with depictions of the Silk Road, the road that brought Marco Polo to ancient China and which linked East and West running from western China to Venice Italy, etched in the leather.

With its incorporation of Chinese aesthetic elements, the Ferrari 599 China Limited Edition model is a masterpiece of innovation and creativity, destined to become a collectible piece of art. The model has gained strong interests among car enthusiasts and art collectors after the initial images and concept were shared among the Ferrari dealers’ network.
