Fiat now offering 500L Beats Edition

Article by Anita Panait, on February 19, 2014

Fiat is introducing a new special edition of its Fiat 500L – the Fiat 500L Beats Edition. This new special edition marries innovative technology with a cool, urban look by combining the go-anywhere styling of the 500L Trekking with an enticing grey/black color scheme finished in either gloss or matte. The special edition features 17-inch alloy wheels, wheel arch extensions, side skirts and bumper inserts that are all finished in black, as well as mirror fairings, front “whiskers” and the tailgate handle in satin chrome.

To complete the special edition’s “Beats,” Fiat endowed it with red brake callipers and red inserts in the mirror fairings.  The cabin of this new special edition features automatic dual-zone climate control as standard and a matte-grey dashboard panel. Its Total Black interior pack includes special black fabric/eco-leather seat upholstery that comes with red, embroidered '500' logos on the front backrests.

Living up to its name, this new special edition features a premium BeatsAudio audio system as standard, laden with the latest Beats by Dr. Dre technology that boasts of a total output of 520W via an eight-channel DSP-equipped amplifier.

The seven-speaker system employs advanced equalization algorithms to recreate the sound spectrum usually experienced during studio recordings. The Fiat 500L Beats Edition could be powered by two available petrol engines and two turbo-diesel power plants: a 120hp 1.4 T-Jet; the 105hp 0.9 TwinAir Turbo; a 105hp 1.6 MultiJet II; and new 120hp 1.6 MultiJet II.

The Fiat 500L is not only functional and comfortable, it is also cool. It reflects a bit of Italian style with its distinctive appearance. The car also interprets the carmaker’s unique ability to conceptualize and design vehicles that are innovative both in form and in substance. Substance turns into the idea of "space-efficiency," which is the distinguishing factor of all of Fiat’s most innovative vehicles.

Just as the Fiat 600 Multipla was the compact people carrier’s forerunner, the Fiat 500L is the brand’s new interpretation of its Simply More principle, as applied to its Multispace concept. Moreover, the 500L reformulates the compact cars category for the today’s family in an emotional way by developing in unprecedented forms some of the car's stylistic details.

500L’s recognizable features are marked by a design that does not include edges and taut lines in order to showcase "gentler" forms.

When you look at the new Fiat 500L, you will realize that its iconic nature – made up of its design force and personality – is what forms the real matrix for the entire project. The car was developed within the new Fiat B segment platform’s context and is an innovative vehicle that addresses a broader and more diversified customer base and aims to set higher standards when it comes to comfort and available on-board space. All these result to a highly functional car that is capable of "conversing" with the driver and that offers quality you will surely appreciate over the years.

New 120hp engine derivatives for the FIAT 500L range

In order to maintain its top-selling status in its segment in Europe, with a market share of 17.2 percent, the FIAT 500L range broadens its appeal still further with more engine derivatives for 2014. Available across the 500L range, including the new FIAT 500L Beats EditionTM, two new 120hp engines are now available - the 1.6 MultiJet II turbo-diesel and the 1.4 T-Jet petrol.

The EU6-approved, 1.6 MultiJet II turbo-diesel engine is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger, developed by Honeywell, and develops 120hp at 3,750 rpm and 320Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. Top speed increases to 117mph (up from 112mph with the 105hp engine) while the 0-62mph sprint is now dispatched in 10.7 seconds (versus 11.3 seconds). Combined consumption dips only slightly to 61.4mpg (versus 62.8mpg) while CO2 emissions of 120 g/km (+3g/km) ensure it remains in the same tax and BIK band as the 105hp engine.

The EU6-ready 1.4 T-Jet petrol offers an identical 120hp at 5,000rpm but its maximum 215Nm of torque is available from just 2,500rpm, ensuring a broad and flexible performance range. Top speed is 117mph while the 0-62mph dash takes just 10.2 seconds, with combined-cycle fuel economy figure of 40.9mpg and CO2 emissions of 159 g/km.

These new engines will go on sale in the UK in mid-March with pricing to be announced shortly.
