A Fisker Karma went to the highest bidder at the charity auction in Camden’s renowned Round House performing arts venue for the price of £140,000 or €159,770 (US$220,680). This is the first Fisker Karma to be sold in the United Kingdom. The Karma, an electric car with expanded range (EVer), was the star lot at the 2011 Pratham UK Gala, selling for an amazing £140,000, more than twice its market value. The proceeds from the sale will go towards financing various programs run by the charitable organization.
The successful bidder’s vehicle will have a special plaque signed by Henrik Fisker, Fisker Automotive's CEO and co-founder.
Pratham UK is an offshore chapter of the children’s charity established in Mumbai by UNICEF in 1994. Its objective is to make sure that every child in India gets the chance to go to school and get an education. Since its creation, the organization has assisted more than 36 million Indian children with its literacy crusade.
The auction produced more than £870,000 or €991,800 (US$1,371,120), which will help finance Pratham programs like "Read India", a program that seeks to boost the reading and fundamental arithmetic skills of children in rural areas.
Intended to echo Fisker’s paradigm of Uncompromised Responsible Luxury, the Fisker Karma is the first American-designed and engineered high-class automobile particularly designed to appeal to international markets. It is the only upscale sedan on earth that satisfies future fuel consumption and emission specifications, making it well suited for any worldwide city.
Considered as a new player in the manufacture of premium green cars, U.S. automaker Fisker Automotive, Inc., recently revealed its first production car with the Fisker Karma. Unveiled during the 2009 North American International Auto Show held in Detroit, the Karma is not only the first offering from Fisker but it may well be the first plug-in hybrid premium sports sedan.
Performance is excellent with acceleration from 0 mph to 60 mph in merely 5.8 seconds and maximum speed clocked at 125 mph. In addition to the power and fuel efficiency of 100 mpg, low emissions are guaranteed with the all exclusive Q-DRIVE plug-in hybrid powertrain from Quantum Technologies. This particular system is made up of 2 201-hp electric motors, both of which are powered by the state of the art battery pack with lithium-ion technology.
To ensure that it has extended range capabilities, the generator is linked to the Ecotec direct injection 2.0-liter gasoline engine. It is the use of this clean technology and its combination with the timeless and traditional style of Fisker CEO and auto design expert Henrik Fisker that make this four-seat and four-door offering from the company truly unique.
Deliveries for the Karma are slated to start during the 4th quarter of 2009 and will be available at the company’s very own retail network. Starting price is set at $87,900, though it can go down to $80,400, once the U.S. government tax credits kick in. The company shared that ever since the prototype made its official debut during the 2008 Detroit Auto Show, it has received 1,000 orders for the Karma.
