The 2017 Honda Civic Type R will be the first ever Civic Type R that will be offered to U.S. consumers. Now it is only fitting that the very first of these Type Rs made as a US-spec model will go under the auction hammer for charity. This auction at the Bring a Trailer website will last for 8 days and will end on June 15. The clock is ticking; so have a go at it, bidders.
Loyal followers of the Honda Civic Type R have been waiting a long time to get their hands on the hot hatch since it was revealed for the United States around 2015. Like any dynamic automobiles that is on high demand, the Japanese automaker channeled their inner benevolence by offering their first Civic Type R at the Bring A Trailer website.
Bearing the VIN number 01, the Civic Type R will be set on a bidding war starting June 07 of this year with all the final proceeds benefiting the organization that the Japanese automaker has been supporting since 1991- the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The said auction will be held for 8 days. Jeff Conrad, Vice President at American Honda Motor Co., said that the Civic Type R has long been seen as the desired object for car enthusiasts in the U.S., and they planned that it would be fun to offer one lucky customer a chance of bringing home the first of its kind Civic R in the US.
Civic Type R will be the first ever new release to be sold on the site, which is usually reserved for arcane classic vehicles. Interested buyers that will not join the bidding event on the Civic online will have to patiently wait for another Civic to be showcased in chosen dealerships in a few weeks, and the supposed price tag will reach a cool $33,900 that doesn't include $875 for handling and destination.
The Japanese automaker has sold Civic Type Rs in Europe and Japan for many years now, and it is only now that Honda has decided to bring the hot hatch to the US, what an iconic moment.
The hot hatch is equipped with a 2.0 L turbocharged engine capable of producing 306hp (220 kW) and is exclusively paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. The Civic Type R also has a new accomplishment under its belt as being the fastest front-wheel drive car on the famous Nurburgring track, clocking in an impressive lap time of 7 minutes and 43.80 seconds. Production is at the Japanese automaker's Swindon, U.K plant.
