First ever US-spec 2017 Honda Civic Type R sold for $200,000

How much do you reckon someone would pay to own the first ever 2017 Honda Civic Type R? Last week, Honda collaborated with an online auction site, Bring a Trailer to sell its very first US spec Civic Type R. It came out wearing an Aegean Blue Metallic paint paired with black wheels, and covered in red details, with a VIN number 01. T Eight days later, on 15th of June, the Civic Type R has finally been awarded to someone.

The said model had a going price of $200,000, and by far is the new most expensive Honda Civic ever auctioned. As you know, Honda has been supporting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation since 1991, and all the proceeds from this particular sale will go to charity.

Senior Vice President of American Honda Motor Co, Jeff Conrad talked about how much fun the company thought it would have to give one very lucky customer the first of its kind vehicle in the U.S. while aiding the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, which was created to find a cure for brain tumors in children.

This $200,000 Type R is the first ever to be sold on Bring a Trailer, and in the US market. But don’t you worry if you are eyeing one, as it would not cost you the same price. For a brand new Civic, the company will instead ask for $33,900 plus and extra $875 for destination and handling once it hits dealerships.

The first Civic sold is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with an output of 306 horsepower (220 kilowatts) powered by a six-speed manual transmission, just like the other Type Rs that will soon be in dealerships. It is the company’s most powerful production engine at 153 horsepower per liter, and is supposed to be the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nurburgring. Of course, it is also considered a good car for the road.

The model comes with twenty-inch alloy wheels which are wrapped with sticky Continental ContiSportContact 6 maximum performance summer tires, paired with Brembo 4 piston front calipers with 13.8 inch ventilated, cross-drilled rotors for some stopping power. Part of the Type R’s package includes the rear wing, center outlet exhaust, and signature red Honda badges. Inside the cabin is a red and black interior featuring sports seats with aggressive side bolsters. Let us not forget, this particular model has been designated R-00001, making it extra unique.

Honda will be building the US spec Civic Type Rs at their Swindon plant in the United Kingdom. Separately, the turbocharged engine will be developed at the company’s factory Ohio, USA.
