As it prepares to launch the 2015 Edge crossover, Ford announced its intentions to add more than 1,000 jobs at its Oakville Assembly plant in Canada. This news comes after the manufacturer announced a C$700 investment at the Oakville Assembly plant in order to expand the manufacturing capability to meet the surging global demand.

The new jobs will bring the total employees number to more than 4,000 by the year-end. For those who don’t know, the Oakville Assembly plant currently builds the Ford Edge, Flex as well as the Lincoln MKX and MKT and was chosen to build the new 2015 global Ford Edge.

Set to go on sale next year, the new Ford Edge was unveiled back in June and will be sold in more than 100 markets across the globe. The vehicle uses the same global platform as the Ford Fusion, which was introduced in 2012, and will use a new 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine as standard.

The engine delivers 245 hp and 270 lb-ft (366 Nm) of torque and comes with Auto Start-Stop system that helps it reduce the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. A bigger 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine that generates more than 300 hp.

A naturally-aspirated 3.5-liter V6 engine will continue to be offered as well.

“The new 2015 Ford Edge sets a new standard in its class and will show countries around the world Canadian quality at its best,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president of The Americas. “New jobs at Oakville Assembly will strengthen our investment in Canada and increase our capabilities as we gear up for one of the most anticipated launches at Ford.”
