Ford recalling more than 465,000 vehicles

Article by Christian A., on June 3, 2013

Ford has just announced that it will recall more than 465,000 vehicles in several popular models, such as the 2013 Explorer, Taurus, Flex, Fusion, Police Interceptor Utility and Sedan, 2013 Lincoln MKS, MKT and MKZ. According to a Ford spokesman, FoMoCo sent three different recalls for several of its best-selling cars to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last week.

Apparently, se vehicles are all being recalled because a fuel delivery module in the vehicles’ fuel tanks may leak. Ford received over 600 complaints about the leaks since March 31 but no accidents, fires or injuries were reported.

500 2013 Lincoln MKZ sedans that are equipped with engine block heats are also recalled. Ford said that the insulation on the heaters’ 120-volt electrical cords may crack in subzero temperatures and as a result electrical wires are exposed. 23 Ford Fusion sedans are recalled for faulty steering gears.

The Ford Taurus already has what many customers of large sedans want. However, under the 2013 model year, the design has been refined with the craftsmanship improved. Further, there are now more technologies fitted inside with driving dynamics improved and fuel economy made better. Customers are being given the chance to choose from new engines, all of which show increased fuel efficiency but not at the expense of performance.

Further, the new Taurus will be the first model from the North American range of the brand to have the cutting-edge EcoBoost 2.0-liter engine. This engine has gasoline direct injection combined with a turbocharger. Thus, it is expected to offer 237 hp with peak torque of 250 lb.-ft. Ford revealed that it projects the new Taurus to have the best highway fuel economy for its segment with estimates of it being at least 31 mpg.

Another engine to be offered is the 2.5-liter V6 engine whose fuel efficiency is unmatched when it comes to other V6 engines in the segment. Performance is guaranteed with power expected to be around 290 hp. Ford's President of The Americas Mark Fields shared that by paying attention to detail, Ford was able to implement significant improvements to its flagship sedan.

The new Taurus in fact builds on the change that was implemented for the 2010 version, he added. Because of the many upgrades present in the new version, he continued, this will highlight not only the leadership of the brand but its commitment as well when it comes to offering customers with fuel-efficient models that offer high quality.
