Ford slashes price of Focus Electric by $6,000, now available at $29,995

Ford Focus Electric has just become more affordable as the American carmaker slashed the price of its electric car by $6,000. As a result, the Focus Electric is now priced at $29,995, including shipping. The price cut was made on October 13, will be available for all 2014 models and according to a Ford spokesman Ford will continue to offer the reduction until the 2015 models arrive.

For those who don’t know, this is the second time when Ford reduces the prices of the Focus Electric as in July 2013, the carmaker reduced the price by $4,000. Still, thanks to the $7,500 federal tax credit, the price of the Focus Electric is $22,495

Ford managed to sell around 1,500 vehicles this year, which means that the Focus Electric is still behind the Nissan Leaf and we don’t believe that it is a rival for the latter as 21,800 vehicles were sold in the first nine months of this year.

Ford Focus Electric offers a range of 76 miles, comes with a single-speed transmission, while top speed is 84 mph or 136 km/h.

Ford designed the new Focus Electric to deliver superior levels of energy efficiency, reliable operation, real driving enjoyment. Thanks to its all-electric powertrain and single-speed transmission, the new Focus Electric delivers instantaneous response and seamless acceleration, with the ability to go as fast as 84 mph (136 km/h).

In terms of steering, handling and braking feel, the new Ford Focus Electric is pretty much similar to the conventionally powered Focus models. This makes the new Focus Electric an agile and dynamic driver's car. Moreover, since the new Focus Electric has no gasoline or diesel engine and boasts of excellent aerodynamics, it offers a quiet, comfortable in-car experience.

Sherif Marakby, director of Ford's electrification programs and engineering, remarked that the new Ford Focus Electric offers more than other electric vehicles as it retains the dynamics and quality of a traditional car. He noted that the new Focus Electric is laden with several premium components and features found on the gasoline-powered Focus, while offering better levels of efficiencies and a distinct driving experience.

Ford has injected into Focus Electric an array of standard safety and security elements like six airbags and electronic traction control. Its North American version features hands-free SYNC telephone connectivity and MyKey.

Furthermore, the new Focus Electric extensively employs environment-friendly materials like bio-foam seat cushions and recycled fabrics. North American customers will also benefit from further standard elements like a distinct version of MyFord Touch driver connect technology, voice-activated Navigation System, Sirius Satellite Radio with Travel Link and HD Radio as well as AM/FM/CD/MP3 Sony Audio with nine speakers. Also included are a push button start, a 60/40 split rear bench seat and 15-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels.
