Auto Express released pictures of the baby brother of the Ford Kuga – a new crossover that is set to go up against the Nissan Juke when it arrives at dealerships next summer.
Ford based the 4x4 on the Fiesta supermini. It is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The model has been spied being tested across Europe, as well as on the streets of London.
The images show that the styling is heavily inspired by the Vertrek concept, which was displayed the Detroit expo last January.
It features the same multi-layered headlights, sculpted bonnet and lowered roofline. The bodywork was adjusted to accommodate the increased measurements of the SUV.
It has pronounced wheel arches front and back, and the chassis of the Fiesta was stretched to provide wider tracks. Its kerb appeal gets a boost from chrome inserts on the grille, and twin exhausts that sit flush with the rear bumper.
Even with the large concept car wheels, this new model’s ground clearance and its big bumpers imply an off-road potential that could rival the Juke.
Nevertheless, its main rival will be from Vauxhall’s new junior off-roader, which is also expected to start selling next year.
There were no major changes to the design and it stays pretty similar to the rest of the model range. A Ford spokesman said that all models that are built on this platform will have the same Kinetic design language until the arrival of an all-new Fiesta.
The spokesman revealed that a new concept (rumored to show off the brand’s fresh family look) may be seen at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Many say that for Ford to succeed in this packed segment, it has to achieve a delicate balance of practicality and styling.
