The 2015 Lexus RC F Coupe didn’t reach the dealerships yet but the Japanese manufacturer is already thinking on a new version. Apparently, Lexus is planning a four-door version of the RC F Coupe, which will use the same platform and engine. Expected sometime in 2016, this new model will be more practical but also cheaper than the coupe.
According to Autocar, a convertible version might also be offered. So, expect the four-foor RC F to be powered by the same 5.0-liter, 32-valve V8 engine that generates more than 450 hp (335 kW) and 520 Nm of torque.
The engine will deliver the power to the rear wheels through a fuel-efficient 8-speed Sports Direct Shift, intelligent electronically controlled automatic transmission.
Although there are no official details regarding the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph), we do know that the top speed is electronically limited at 168 mph or 270 km/h on the coupe version.
In terms of dimensions, the new Lexus RC F measures 4,705 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width and 1,390 mm in height. Thus, it is longer, wider and lower than the Lexus RC, as made possible by its characteristic flared wheel arches and the packaging of its rear aerodynamic devices.
Amazingly, every styling feature on the RC F offers an advantage in terms of aerodynamics. For instance, Lexus’ signature spindle grille -- featuring a graduated mesh pattern -- flows to a distinct aerodynamic treatment across the hood. In addition, oil coolers flank the cooling ducts within the grille while a large L-shaped cooling outlet located at the rear of the front wing offers cooling and aerodynamic benefits while making the new RC F look more dynamic.
Meanwhile, Lexus raised the hood of the new RC F not just to accommodate but also to emphasize the V8 engine underneath. The hood features a meshed scoop at its center section that offers further cooling and aerodynamic functions. The smooth, seamless flow from the hood and front wing through to the belt line also contributes to airflow while highlighting the crouching nature of the coupe’s design. In addition, a number of aerodynamic spats and aids spanning the length of the RC F help make the coupe appear wider and lower.
