It appears that GM has big plans and wants to revive the Electra as the American manufacturer registered the name as a trademark, according to U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. For those who don’t know, the Buick Electra was a full-sized premium vehicle built by GM. The Electra name was used by Buick between 1959 and 1990.
Still, we don’t have a clue regarding the upcoming car form Buick, but we do know that on June 5, GM registered the name and said in the application that it will use the mark with automobiles. Currently, Buick markets the Verano, Regal and LaCrosse sedans but also the Enclave crossover in the United States. For the 2013MY, Buick will launch the Encore small crossover.
Thanks to Buick’s global design language that lends the Encore with sculpted and elegant styling attributes, it is easily recognizable as a contemporary Buick. It is laden with a number of signature cues like its sweeping character lines, waterfall grille, chrome accents and surrounds, as well as portholes on the bonnet and painted lower panels.
David Lyon, executive director of design, remarked that the Encore introduces the brand’s timeless, sculptural design to the crossover segment with great blend of elegance, utility and efficiency. He added that the new Encore exudes confidence in its athletic stance as well as elemental beauty in its rich details.
The new Encore features blue-accented projector-beam headlamps and detailed rear lamps, as well as standard 18-inch five-spoke painted aluminum wheels (seven-spoke chrome wheels are optional).
The organic exterior styling of the new Buick Encore is continued into the interior, with the flowing instrument panel wrapping naturally into the door panels. The large, full-color, seven-inch LCD display for the IntelliLink voice-activated radio system is accommodated on the central instrument panel, which also houses the displays for the SiriusXM satellite radio, and for the available navigation and rear camera systems.
The cabin makes use of a modern blend of dark and light tones, as accented by ice blue ambient lighting as well as select use of bright trim and wood-grain trim. The new Encore is also fitted with premium seats that make use of high-density foam to deliver higher levels of comfort during long drives. These seats are trimmed with a contemporary cloth/leatherette motif, or optionally leather. Also available for the new Encore are heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. On the rear cabin, the seat comes with a fold-down armrest with cup holders.
Other standard or available comfort and luxury features for the new Encore include Bose premium sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, Rainsense wipers, remote vehicle start as well as a six-way, power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar adjustment and driver memory.
In terms of storage capacity and compartments, the new Buick Encore offers 18.8 cubic feet (533 liters) behind the split-folding rear seat, which could be increased to 48.4 cubic feet (1,372 liters) when the rear seat are folded. The front passenger seat could be folded flat to extend the cargo length, allowing the Encore to accommodate longer items.
The new Buick Encore could be wrapped in any of the nine exterior colors and three interior color combinations.
The new Buick Encore benefits from QuietTuning, with its sound and vibration characteristics refined through a three-point strategy: reducing sounds right at their source; blocking sounds from entering the passenger compartment; and absorbing remaining sounds.
For the new Encore, it features the application of specific content delivers 40 sound benchmarks in terms of refinement. In fact, the Encore is the first Buick vehicle to feature active noise cancellation. Ceiling-mounted microphones could detect engine noise, which frequencies are processed by a computer. Then counteracting sound waves are directed through the audio system's speakers and subwoofer.
