Article by Christian A., on June 20, 2011

Customers who buy a pre-owned vehicle will automatically get a three-month subscription by satellite radio operator Sirius XM Radio Inc. at over 1,000 participating General Motors dealerships throughout the U.S.

The offer applies to all vehicles regardless of the manufacturer. In a statement, Joe Verbrugge, a senior vice president at Sirius XM, said that it’s the first time that participating GM dealers could provide a three-month subscription to Sirius XM for their pre-owned vehicle customers regardless of its brand.

According to Sirius XM, GM dealers will offer the three-month subscription of Sirius XM to those who bought pre-owned Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC vehicles that were factory-equipped with satellite radio until the end of this year.

In early 2011, Sirius XM CEO Mel Karmazin said that since 2009 when it was on the brink of bankruptcy, the company has been on the road to recovery. Sirius XM had 20.6 million total subscribers as of March 31, a 9% increase compared to the same period a year ago. In the first quarter of 2011, Sirius recorded 373,064 new subscribers, higher by 118% compared to the first quarter of 2010.

General Motors said that customers who purchase Certified Pre-Owned equipped with SiriusXM will be offered a 3-month subscription to Sirius XM Radio. Ballweg Family of Dealerships CEO and General Motors National Dealer Council Co-Chair, Jason Brickle, said that on a daily basis, the company wants to give customers who purchase pre-owned vehicles the greatest buying experience and the best value. Brickle shared that his dealerships are now under the SiriusXM program and he hopes that other dealers of GM will take advantage of this and enrol.

This is a chance to bring in additional value to their respective inventories, and offer the 3-month introductory subscription for the satellite radio, he continued. According to Joe Verbrugge, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Automotive Remarketing Division at SiriusXM, this will be the first time that participating GM dealers will be able to offer a 3-month subscription for SiriusXM to pre-owned vehicle customers, no matter what their vehicle may be. Verbrugge continued by saying that many GM dealers around the U.S. are excited with the fact that they now have the chance to offer SiriusXM to customers without compromising on advanced technologies or even sacrificing certified pre-owned models, especially when purchasing pre-owned vehicles.
