Hennessey Venom GT to make its debut in Monterey

Article by Christian A., on August 17, 2011

The Hennessey Venom GT is set to make its U.S. debut at the McCall’s Motorworks Revival in Monterey on August 17. Its European debut was recently held at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This 1,200hp ultra-lightweight supercar is the creation of Hennessey Performance (HPE). As HPE only produces five Venom GTs annually, it means that this is one highly exclusive supercar. The Venom GT is offered in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations.

It has a price tag of $950,000, plus optional upgrades and shipping. It takes a team of craftsmen a total of six months to make just one vehicle at its facilities in Sealy, Texas, Lake Forest, California and Silverstone, England. The Hennessey Venom GT has a low weight of less than 2,400 pounds and it is powered by GM’s supercharged 6.2L LS9 V8, which was tweaked to deliver 725 hp.

In addition, Hennessey will offer 1,000-hp and 1,200 hp twin-turbo V8 engine versions. The Venom GT can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds and it can reach a maximum speed of 262 mph. HPE president and founder, John Hennessey, asserts that no other car can match the power to weight ratio of the Venom GT, which boasts a 1,200hp output with a mid-engine chassis that weighs just 1,200 kilos (2,685 lbs).

The Hennessey Venom GT is built to perform judging from the 6-speed manual gearbox developed by Ricardo.

The Venom GT’s lightweight transmission’s alloy shifter is surrounded with carbon fibre components. It also boasts of AP Racing’s multi-disc clutch that increases torque transmission while going easy on the clutch pedals. Meanwhile, the supercar is made with the finest leather and carbon fibre trims for the racing-inspired interior.

John Hennessey shared his thoughts about the new Venom GT and how he always wanted to build his own racecar. Hennessey wants a sporty and lightweight engine chassis with the power of a V8 engine. He also thinks that the power-to-weight ratio is significant for a racercar that’s why the brand is building on this foundation. With its strong partnership with Le Mans and Formula 1 race engineers, the teamwork only integrated the most exceptional materials and latest technology there is. As a result, the Venom GT was born ---Hennessey’s finest high performance race car that you can drive anywhere.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed recently unveiled the Hennessey Venom GT in Europe. Shortly after its European debut, Hennessey’s supercar will be shown off at the Monterey Car Week.

Don Goldman (Goldman Promotions CEO) expressed his excitement at the chance to hold a special event for the Venom GT. He considers it as one of biggest gatherings for car enthusiasts around the world. Goldman also mentioned that aside from world-class cars, the Gordon McCall Motorworks Revival also caters to aircraft enthusiasts.

The bright yellow Hennessey Venom GT will be at the Portolla Plaza Hotel in Monterey on August 18-20. The exclusive carmaker only produces 5 units of this particular Hennessey model yearly. Each car takes about 6 months to complete since a small team in different facilities handcrafts the Hennessey to perfection. They have one facility in Silverstone (England), also in Lake Forest (California) and Sealy (Texas). The Venom GT is offered in both left hand and right hand drive and costs an estimated amount of $950,000 USD (excluding shipment cost and optional upgrades).

John Hennessey, (HPE President and Founder) emphasised the fact that the Venom GT’s unparalleled power-to-weight ratio was due to the powerful combination of the 1200 horsepower with the 2,685lb mid-engine chassis. He also said the new Hennessey GT has a soul in it and that it can perform according to the driver’s every whim.

Since 1991, Hennessey has been making super cars and operates a facility located in Sealy, Texas. The workshop and showroom has a size of 30,000 square feet. The installation facility is in Lake Forest, California, which also has its own showroom. Hennessey Performance Engineering offers parts and upgrades for today’s high performance cars. In addition, the company has its own test track in North America to ensure world-class quality.
