Hublot reveals King Power Ayrton Senna limited edition watch

Article by Christian A., on November 16, 2010

Hublot has created a Special Tourbillon watch to commemorate racing legend, Ayrton Senna. Arguably the most famous F1 driver of all time, Senna has had a 10-year racing career starting in 1984 until his death at Imola in 1994. He is also known for his philanthropy. In his home country, he has given away millions to underprivileged children.

This watch, named The King Power Tourbillon Ayrton Senna, is made from several high-tech materials featured in Formula 1, such as the Nomex fibers that will be seen on a timepiece for the first time.

Its case is made entirely from carbon fiber – the first Hublot watch to be built like this. Ceramics were used for the bezel, which is designed to appear like a ventilated brake disc.

Dupont De Nemours supplied the strap, which is made from synthetic Nomex fibers. Interestingly, these fibers are used to make fire resistant suits for F1 drivers. The watch’s start, stop and reset functions can be operated with a single push button.

Complications include a 30 minute counter placed at 10 o’clock and a 60 second counter, placed next to it at 2 o’clock. Confrerie Horlogere Hublot made this movement called HUB 6300, which consists of 269 moving parts.

It measures 30 mm in diameter and has a 13 mm cage with no ball bearings and a lightweight construction. This watch is presented in a carbon fiber case, which also features a replica of Senna’s helmet. Fans will be giddy with the fact that Sid Mosca had painted these helmets. Mosca had painted Senna’s real racing helmets.
