Hyundai, Kia want to break the 7 million barrier in terms of sales in 2012

Hyundai and Kia announced that they have a new sales goal: both Korean manufacturers aim to sell about 7 million cars globally next year. This means that Hyundai and Kia seek an additional 500,000 units as this year they expect to sell 6.5 million cars. Hyundai and Kia are currently on the fifth position in terms of global auto sales as the manufacturers build affordable and quality models, which appeal to cost-conscious consumers.

"We aim to sell about 7 million vehicles next year. We expect to reach (the target) should we run our factories at full capacity," Chung Jin-haeng told Reuters on Tuesday. Still, Mr. Chung Jin-haeng didn’t give any breakdown on the sales goals for Hyundai and Kia. Moreover, he also said that Hyundai and Kia expect to beat their 2011 sales target and sell around 6.6 million cars.

Although other manufacturers are not selling cars due to the market conditions, Hyundai and Kia have other problems: the Korean manufacturers see rapid volume growth softening due to the limited manufacturing capacity. "I expect Hyundai and Kia will be able to achieve sales of 7.2 million vehicles next year, with Hyundai's China plant starting production and Kia introducing a third shift at its Slovakia plant," added Chung Jin-haeng.

New Kia Sportage has a new bodyshell, engine and design that helps make it an urban friendly SUV that is just ideal for the modern family. The compact SUV uses less fuel and has lower carbon dioxide emissions.

The new Sportage is 90 mm longer, 15 mm wider and 60 mm lower than its predecessor yet it retains all the important features such as a commanding driving height, a marked road presence and a better sense of security. All of these made the previous Sportage a sought-after SUV.

It was in 2004 that the second-generation Kia Sportage was introduced to the market and it was a big step for the carmaker. In the six years that followed, the second Sportage had thousands of new buyers and sold over 860,000 units, 150,000 of these in Western Europe.

With the guidance of chief design officer Peter Schreyer, the new Sportage now has the carmaker’s new design philosophy. It has also adapted the features you see on the 2007 Kia Kue concept car. This helps make it stand out and be easily distinguishable from any rival in the crowded segment.

Kia Motors Corporation president Hyoung-Keun Lee says that the new Kia Sportage is five-seat compact SUV that would appeal to customers. The Sportage is an urban friendly SUV that is in tune with the changing demands and expectations of Kia’s customers. Lee reveals that despite the global economic slowdown, their market research shows that there is a growing demand for C-segment SUVs in the European continent for the next five years. This is because customers would want to scale down their vehicles and the Sportage focuses on this segment.

Lee also says that the customer reaction to the new Sportage in Europe have been very positive and that they are confident that the new model will help Kia secure a bigger compact SUV market share.
