Hyundai is launching a larger production run of a special-edition Genesis sedan that was introduced at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show. This sedan had been designed according to the preferences of Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli. Back then, only three copies of that car were produced. Hyundai recently presented the 2012 Genesis Prada in South Korea. This is the product of the collaboration between Hyundai and Prada that spanned two years.
The car is powered by Genesis’s new-for-2012 5.0-liter V-8 engine mated to eight-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose from three colors exclusive to Prada: Black Nero, Blue Baltico, or Brown Moro.
Each of them includes a gold pearl effect. Hyundai said that the car’s grille, badges, and door handles are all finished in dark chrome. Hyundai said that these match the buckles on Prada bags. To enhance the interior, Prada’s top-notch saffiano leather is used on the dashboard and seats.
The added touches include a set of bespoke 19-inch wheels, a distinctive wedge-shaped antenna and, some exclusive Genesis Prada badges. Hyundai will provide 1,200 examples as a special-order model to the market in South Korea.
Hyundai has plans to export a few more cars to markets in Asia and the Middle East at a later date. It hasn’t been announced yet just how much the Prada special edition would be priced.
First introduced just in February of this year, the Genesis Prada is mainly inspired by the 2012 Genesis. It had won the celebrated North American Car of the Year award in 2009. Powering this vehicle is the Tau V8 engine from Hyundai. This is the same engine that has been awarded as part of Ward's 10 Best Engines for 2009, 2010, and 2011. The Tau 5.0-liter GDi engine inside the 2012 Genesis is paired with an automatic eight-speed transmission.
The enables the driver to enjoy the power delivery, as well as the driving dynamics, to the fullest range. Maximum output is at 430 ps with peak torque at 52.0 kgm. The Genesis Prada will be offered in three colors which are Brown Moro, Blue Baltico, and Black Nero. These colors are applied to the body using what is known as the three-layer coat technology with the stereoscopic gold pearl. Meanwhile the door handles, the emblem, and the radiator grille come in dark chrome.
By doing this, the car is able to echo the buckles on many of Prada’s bags, which in fact have been coated in palladium. Other highlights in the Genesis Prada include the alloy 19-inch wheels and the outer antenna that is shaped like a wedge.
To get a stylish and lavish feel for the interior, the dashboard and its upholstery have been enhanced and are now enclosed in "saffiano" leather. This is none other than the top quality and signature leather of Prada.
While the Genesis Prada will only be manufactured through personal orders, the GP500 emblem and the limited Genesis Prada badge will highlight the rarity of this model. Both Prada and Hyundai will be conducting exclusive VIP marketing events in order to give its customers not just the highest of pleasure but also the greatest convenience. Specifically for the Korean market, the company plans to release 1,200 units. It will also be selling a limited number to different countries in Asia, the Middle East, and of course, China.
