Infiniti EV sketch shows a lot, says design boss! Oh really?

Article by Christian A., on December 9, 2010

Infiniti, Nissan Motor Co.’s premium brand, is set to launch its first full-electric car in 2013. Not much has been revealed about this five-seat sedan since a sketch was released in late September.

But recently, Nissan-Infiniti design boss Shiro Nakamura has provided further details about this car and has emphasized that the brand wants to stand out from its competitors.

In an interview with Automotive News Europe Managing Editor Douglas A. Bolduc, we learned that the sketch that was shown in September is very close to what Infiniti envisions and seeks to achieve.

He also said that Infiniti will add a hybrid next year to its gasoline and diesel models. He shared that the electric vehicle will be launched in the next few years and that there will be four different types of powertrains. However, he said that Infiniti wants to be consistent.

For instance, the new EV and the M hybrid will have the same design philosophy. When it comes to proportion, the EV doesn't have a long hood like the FX and M and will have a short nose.

However, overall the design language will be quite close to FX, M and Essence. For Nissan, the EV will be more independent but for Infiniti, the identity in the lineup will be maintained. [via autonews - sub. required]
