Infiniti rolls out more affordable GT version of M35h hybrid saloon

Article by Anita Panait, on July 5, 2012

Infiniti buyers now have another M35h GT version to consider aside from the M35h GT Premium that was the sole variant available back then. Customers now have a choice between two variants of the world’s fastest-accelerating hybrid saloon, the Infiniti M35h GT. The new variant still delivers the same performance and low emissions of the original M35h GT, but costs £3970 less.

The new Infiniti M35h GT, which started arriving at Infiniti Centres this month, boast of several enhancements including the soft-closing boot function. The new Infiniti M35h GT as well as the premium variant boasts of emitting CO2 below the 160g/km tax threshold, which means that both versions have reduced running costs.

Whereas in the past the navigation system was only available as part of the package that also includes a 16-speaker Bose surround sound, customers now could opt to install a Connectiviti+, Infiniti’s navigation/entertainment system, on their GT and S models at an additional £1800.

The price also includes Forest Air, a sophisticated climate control systems. Infiniti has loaded its ‘M’ models with features like semi-aniline leather seat facings and heated and ventilated front seats, as well as alloy wheels, bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS).

The ‘M’ models also come in a White Ash wood trim finished with real silver powder. Infiniti also equipped its M30d S, M30d S Premium and M37 S Premium models with larger alloy wheels, 4-Wheel Active Steering, and sports suspension, brakes and seats, as well as black lacquer trim. Infiniti also equipped its top-selling ‘Premium’ models with a complete suite of safety and convenience technologies including Blind Spot InterventionTM, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Prevention (LDP).

Infiniti reveals that with the Infiniti M35h, it will be showing off the so-called “driver’s hybrid” which comes with the latest in steering technology and even braking technology. Already considered as a pioneer especially with the one motor/two clutch system, the addition of these two news systems is expected to strengthen the M35h given that they were designed in order to deliver an enhanced driving feel while offering excellent environmental advantages.

With regards to the braking system, Infiniti made sure that it would meet the preferences of sports sedan customers. However, it helps lower the carbon footprint of this model further ensuring that the M35h has the lowest CO2 emissions among the M Line range. It is however the new steering system that customers will fall in love with especially as it comes with electro-hydraulic system that offers assistance "on-demand."

The system brings with it the advantage offered by hydraulic power steering which has that smooth and natural feel. That’s not enough as it also offered the fuel efficiency expected from an electric system. Under this system, the motor will only cut in once the wheel has been turned. As such, it helps increase the efficiency even further. When compared to standard power steering configurations, the one in the new M35h is smaller and this was made possible by integrating different parts.

Overall, the theme when it came to these two systems was simplicity. This is the same treatment done for the drivetrain which has its V6 gas-powered engine capable of 50 kW (68 PS) paired with the electric motor. The output is then transmitted through the automatic 7-speed transmission. Sales of the new Infiniti M35h in the Europe and US market are expected to begin by 2011.

Press Release

Infiniti M35h GT

The choice for the world's fastest-accelerating hybrid saloon has just got easier. A new Infiniti M35h GT version of the record-breaking Infiniti V6 saloon delivers all the performance and low emissions for which the M35h is known - but at a considerably more attractive starting position. The additional model at £41,101 costs £3,970 less than the Infiniti M35h GT Premium which until now was the sole version available.

The Infiniti M35h GT arrives in Infiniti Centres from July 2012, and in common with every new M the line-up benefits from a highly competitive new price structure as well as several enhancements, including a soft-closing boot function.

The additional entry model ensures Infiniti's "no compromise" hybrid approach reaches as large a market as possible. A recent reduction in CO2 emissions further cuts running costs with both versions of the M35h falling below the important 160g/km tax threshold.

"Cost of ownership is an important consideration in any new car purchase. With the M35h GT grade it now means that the P11D values have been reduced and along with the recently improved CO2 rating there are lower bills for companies and for their drivers," said Infiniti UK Fleet Sales Manager, Simon Lewis.

Previously the navigation system was available only as part of a package with 16-speaker Bose® surround sound. But, in response to customer wishes, a new separate option of Connectiviti+, Infiniti's navigation/entertainment system, has been introduced on GT and S models at a highly competitive £1800 - a price that also includes one of the most sophisticated climate control systems available, Forest Air®.

The option, if taken, will add to the famously generous specification expected from any Infiniti product. On an 'M' these include such items as semi-aniline leather seat facings, heated and ventilated front seats, bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), alloy wheels and White Ash wood trim finished with real silver powder.

As before, M30d S, M30d S Premium and M37 S Premium add a sporting focus with larger alloy wheels, 4-Wheel Active Steering, and sports suspension, brakes and seats, along with black lacquer trim in the cabin.

Now well established in the range, Infiniti's top-selling 'Premium' models are equipped with Infiniti's complete suite of safety and convenience technologies including Blind Spot InterventionTM, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Prevention (LDP).

The overall quality of the Infiniti M has also been recognised within the American J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. The Infiniti M came top of the Midsize Premium Car segment ahead of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
