Italy’s Carabinieri Regiment, Ferrari pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

Article by Christian A., on May 17, 2012

At the Diamond Jubilee Pageant, the Mounted Carabinieri Regiment made a star appearance with its renowned "Carosello" performance. The event is part of the tribute of Italy to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee Celebration taking place at Windsor Castle from May 10 to 13, 2012. Since 1931, the Queen has visited the country three times.

She also had the chance to see the Italian Carabinieri perform in 1980 and 2000 in Rome. The Carabinieri are a part of the working police force of Italy. However, they also have a ceremonial role, preserving cavalry traditions. The Carabinieri brought 90 horses and riders to Windsor for the Carosello, which has a fascinating and long history, originating in mediaeval knightly tournaments.

This performance has a series of complicated figures that require the performance of absolute speed and accuracy. The most exciting part of this performance is the charge, with sabers drawn, to the rousing battle cry: "Pastrengo!" The Carabinieri were accompanied by multi-awarded multinational operatic pop vocal group, Il Divo, performing "Caruso" from their Siempre album. Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo was a guest of honor for the Gala Performance.

He commented that the event was a "most pleasant evening" and that he was honored to watch the Carabinieri perform the legendary Carosello at the special event. Ferrari finds it a source of great pride to have made a noteworthy contribution to the event and to have two world-famous representatives of Italian excellence pay tribute to one of the most significant Monarchs of the time.

The Carabinieri and Ferrari share deep-rooted values like respect for history and tradition as well as a sense of determination, passion and innovation. Together, the two Italian excellence representatives are the perfect partnership to represent the country at its finest.
